Here is Beatrix 5 years older. I don't think she aged very well.

Only there is a bit more to say than you thought
> at about 0:01: (p. 171) three missed speeches right at the beginning:
- "Well, Granny ! Well, Samuel, how are you ?"
- "They so want to look at the decorations, Granny Hodnutt. Of course they will see them tomorrow morning, but that will be different, won't it ?"
- "And is this all the school-children's handiwork How delightful !"
> at 0:18: (p. 173) "do you think Pedgrift" - you say "Pengrift"
thanks

Thank you for submitting the One Minute Test per instructions in your welcome email; Perfect and you are ready to go.
The first posting in this (and every) project has the instructions on file names and uploading files and posting the uploader link in the forum to have the file Proof-Listened. (Lottsa examples throughout this project.) These instructions are pretty standard throughout Librivox. I also have a short summary for the important special rules in drama, so here goes:
1) you don't have to read an intro or outro disclaimer, this will be done by the narrator. Instead, record your voice credit at the beginning of the file, which - using the words in the MW - should be: "Amelia, read by Beckett". This credit is used to generate a cast list.
2) then browse through the text and record all the lines you have to speak. Also include any "All" lines while your character is on stage. For a big role it may be good to read the entire play to get into character, but at least it would be good to read a bit around your lines, see what the others are saying, so you can better "react" to them. Just be as expressive (according to the character) as you can in your role.
3) if there are pointers in the text qualifying your voice, like [laughs] or [whines], an added bonus would be that you act those out in your reading, if possible, to make it all more interesting.
4) your file will be proof-listened, and you may receive some notes on corrections and their time locations in your file. These will be posted in the forum and show in the Magic Window marked as "See PL Notes" - please cut corrections into your file to update it and upload a new file (SAME NAME) in a reasonable time - like before your voice and equipment setup change and everything sounds different!
5) and most importantly: please leave enough space between each of your speeches, preferably 2-3 seconds or more. Even when you have the stage directions in the middle of your speech (for example: [kisses her hand]), also leave 2-3 seconds of pause there, because our editor (me) later on has to copy all your parts and paste them into his (my) master file and it's helpful if he (me) has enough space to fiddle with
That's it, I think. Just have fun acting out. And post any questions here.
Thanks, Todd
Beatrix act 4 should be fixed.

Todd will decide on this, but usually we do not include many special effects of that kind.iBeScotty wrote: ↑December 12th, 2023, 5:49 pmRoderick Heron, Acts 2 & 3:

I forgot that I was going to mention for Roderick, Act 2, at one point he drops silver onto a tray and I added that sound effect at that point just in case it is useful.
I see you had fun with the old Heron, but my, what a character. I can't believe Dennis is keeping up with him all that time. Such callousness is past the point of bearable.
Still...excellently acted (someone has got to be the villain after all). Act 3 is already PL ok.
I would have one suggestion for Act 2 however:
> at 6:11: (p. 89) "our lower-class friend is very h'less." - you say "hue-less", I'd rather think it should be "aitch" or "haitch"-less, meaning he is dropping the letter 'h' in words (as he did in "Mr 'eron" and "wife 'etty"), and it would fit with Dennis' sarcastic reply about "honesty" not having a voiced 'h' either
Thanks
Sonia
Thank you, yes that does make sense. I have changed h'less to "h"-less and uploaded corrected file with this one change.Kitty wrote: ↑December 14th, 2023, 7:58 am I would have one suggestion for Act 2 however:

Hi there,
May I claim section 1? This is my first reading of a play. How does it work?
Thanks,
Stacey
