Thank you, Chelo. I've put this recording into the magic window.

However, each volume of this collection should only have two poems in athe same language by any reader (see the top post). so we'll have to hold your other two recordings for Volume 7. If I forget, please remind me!

genecode wrote:David, here’s an Arabic poem (got my reluctant sweetheart to read finally:D)
I don’t really quite speak Arabic, but it’s one of his native languages and I know my man’s quite smart at picking up language.
I’d love him to be name as geniecode(forum name) and Bc(catalog name).

Poem name: Alwatan (means Home in English)
Author: Mahmoud Sami el-Baroudi (1838 - 1904) (Arabic: محمود سامي البارودي)

Poem audio: http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/ec/alwatan_mahmoud_sami_albarodi.mp3
Poet Wiki link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahmoud_Sami_al-Baroudi
Poem text link: http://arabicnadwah.com/arabpoets/watan-barudi.htm

I hope there's no problem with this poem...
Hi Vivian,

Great to have your considerate sweetheart on board! The recording sounds great, but there are a couple of points of detail. He said 'LibriVox.com' instead of 'org' - if that can be corrected, it'd be better. And we need 5 seconds of silence at the end of the recording. I can add that, but if you're correcting the intro then perhaps you can do that too.

Many thanks both!

Leopardi died in 1837, so the poem's in the public domain.

Hokuspokus wrote:Hi,

"Under der Linden" is a nice little jewel of early German Poetry. It is originally written in Mittelhochdeutsch and even for native speakers hard to understand. I found a modern German translation on Wikisource and had to record it.

I did a second version with birds singing in the background.

http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/ec/german_underderlinden-withbirdssinging_vondervogelweide_hok.mp3

The sound I used is from this source:
http://www.pdsounds.org/sounds/runnel

I'm not sure if this was a good idea. If not, kick it out.
Hi Hokuspokus!

The birdsong version is absolutely perfect, and I'm using that one. (To be honest, I didn't even listen to the ohne-birdsong version, as I'm partial to nature noises myself).

My heart was in my mouth as I checked whether the translation is in the public domain, but happily for us, Storck died in 1905. Condolences to any of his relatives who may be reading, of course.

Wonderful contribution as always, and thank you again.

Thank you David. I'm glad you like it.

The other day I was listening to "Dead Mens Money". One of the chapters was read by Alok Karulkar from India. It had the most beautiful background noise. Pouring rain, some faint traffic sound and bicycle bells. It added such a warm and cosy atmosphere to the reading. You could easily imagine sitting in that room somewhere in India, sipping a cup of tea and listening to the reader.
You can't buy that experience (and it is beyond price), you can only get here at LibriVox. :D

Whoops, I know I am a scatterbrain...but there is so much to do and so little time to do.
