I'm fairly sure that the version I am reading over is PD in the UK: first published in 1922, death of author plus seventy years equals 1995: The following being the Gutenberg edition.

Yes, H. Rider Haggard would definitely be PD in the UK.

Thanks Ben. It's a great sub genre that he occupies, the King of the 'Lost World' , and so very influential. He writes in very long sentences, and the chapters are lengthy, but hey, that's all part of the challenge.

'Benita, An African Romance' has been recorded, but as 'The Spirit of Bambatse', which was an alternative title - https://librivox.org/the-spirit-of-bambatse-by-h-rider-haggard/

But that still leaves plenty more to record :)
