PL notes for Section 23:
The text is correct and well read

However the recording fails in Checker because of excessive background noise. You will need to Noise Clean the recording. Instructions on doing this are in the Need Help? forum under VIDEO TUTORIALS FOR LIBRIVOX

Also the silence at the start should be 0.5 to 1 second and the silence at the end should be 5 seconds. Both are currently too long. Please make these corrections and upload again with the same filename.

Please read the previous post concerning section 29!

Here is the upload for section 80, The Tree, An Old Man's Story.

https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/poemspastandpresent_80_hardy_128kb.mp3. 2:59

The time is actually 2:59.91. I didn't know if you wanted to just click it over to 3:00 even or not. I will leave that up to you. :)

Let me know if I need to change anything.

Thanks,
Carol

Sections 61 and 67 are PL OK. A couple of changes for Section 85:
  • At 2:18, I hear “He made a loud moan: the Pyx was gone” but the text reads “He made loud moan: the Pyx was gone.” You might want to snip that errant “a.”
  • At 2:49, I hear “And a head in a heat of shame” but the text reads “And head in a heat of shame.” Another errant “a.”
Cheers,
Winnifred

Hi Winnifred
Thanks for the detailed PL.
I will let section 85 stand as I don't think either misread changes the rhythm or meaning of the line.
I don't ask for Word Perfect PL on my poetry projects, the PL specification I use is copied from the Short Poetry Collection as I think it is a good one for poetry. So I let minor misreads stand.
But I appreciate your detailed checking

Hi Alan, Question about my poem, number 76, wondering if you know where we could find a photo of the original book page for this one?

The poem includes two blanks as shown below which totally messes with the cadence and doesn't make any sense in context.
"That Pontius Pilate acted square,
That never a sword cut Malchus’ ear
And (but for shame I must forbear)
That — — did not reappear! . . . (Page turn)
Since thus they hint, nor turn a hair,
All churchgoing will I forswear,
And sit on Sundays in my chair,
And read that moderate man Voltaire."
In context we know he's referencing "Jesus Christ" it fits tempo and all.
And (but for shame I must forbear)
That Jesus Christ did not reappear!
Since thus they hint, nor turn a hair,
BUT it has blanks there instead of a name. So then I thought, should I just say "so and so"?
And (but for shame I must forbear)
That so and so did not reappear!
Since thus they hint, nor turn a hair,
How would you like me to handle this? Thanks!

Hi Nicole
I have checked several other copies of this poem on line and they all have hyphens at this point, so it seems that Hardy actually wrote it that way. It is almost certainly a reference to Jesus Christ but Hardy was too wary to write the name.
Hard to say how to handle this, we are not supposed to add words to the source text so saying Jesus Christ is not OK. There is a reading on YouTube in which the reader says "Hmm! Hmm!" In a way that maintains the rhythm of the line. Other than that I hardly know what to suggest.

Oh I like that, sounds good! Thanks! Hoping to crank that out tomorrow!

No worries. Before I delete it, did you reupload to the correct MC?
