These poems celebrate the electric communications revolution that occurred in the 1800s with the advent of submarine cables and the telegraph. I suspect the poets didn't foresee the eventual rise of the internet that would allow us to collaborate internationally to record them...

:D Thank you, Ian! Once again spot on selection and rendition, PL OK! Not long ago, I saw a painting that depicted the first ever message sent from inside a ship on the Atlantic (I think that's what it was) but now I can't even remember who the painter was and I can't find it again to link to it here. :(

PS. Martin F. Tupper is a new addition, yet his wiki page states "He was one of the most widely-read English-language authors of his day with the poetry collection Proverbial Philosophy, which was a bestseller in the United Kingdom and North America for several decades." so I'm a bit surprised that this is the first time he gets recorded in almost 18 years of Librivox. Makes you think how many more authors are still out there waiting to be added!

You're very welcome, hosting the collection and listening to poetry is my pleasure!

I do a lot of random searching in archive.org when I feel like "hunting for treasure". That painting came up in one of those sessions, maybe 3-4 months ago, and now I can't remember by what search term it came up, but it was intriguing enough for me to remember seeing it  . I checked my browser history, but it looks like I've deleted it since. I tried searching for it by whatever I could remember of it, but no luck so far.

Hello Rapunzelina

Here are my recordings, hopefully just in time! Things have been terribly busy here. Also note, there is a typo in Aucassin and Nicolette, where I accidentally wrote "Aucussin", but hopefully that should be easy enough to look past.

I dedicated the Whiting and the Snail to my grandfather, who I heard passed away yesterday. He loved Lewis Carroll.

Hi, Rapunzelina. Here's my first poem. I'd like my name to appear as Nathan Rabe. Thanks!

Dedicating a poem is a very sweet thing, I'm sure if he could hear it, he'd love it!

Don't worry about the filename! I think I will fix that at cataloguing

That was lovely, Nathan! Thank you! Everything is fine with your file, too, all tech specs correct!
Here is your Reader page in the catalogue: https://librivox.org/reader/18736 which you can also access from your name-link in the Magic windows. It lists the projects you read for, so it might look a bit empty now. Hopefully you enjoy recording and gradually fill it up! :D

You're welcome! And I know the feeling! The beginning can be a bumpy learning curve, like most beginnings, but eventually it's so worth it!
Well done!

I just stumbled on the painting again and remembered our exchange here.

"Awaiting the reply" 1866
https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/436224
which I think depicts the scene after the first message was sent from a ship and then waiting for the reply.

Also from the same artist:
