And now, Act 2 is also ready for PL: https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/henryv_2_shakespeare_128kb.mp3

I'll stop there for today. Hopefully I can get another act or two done tomorrow!

A very contextual act with a lot of background for the reason of the war. Admittedly not the most exciting one, but interesting as a display of court intrigue and influence.

 so cool to listen to all of it assembled. I loved the intro scene with Kelly and Jen as plotting high officers of the church. They really sound the parts  But everybody was great in their performance. Well done, team ! It has been a pleasure so far.

Two small PL notes:

Act 1:
> at 13:30: "also King Lewis the Tenth" - Kelly forgot to say "king", maybe it's important to state the title at this point. The Archbishop is so pompous he would surely not omit such formalities :hmm:

Act 2:
> at 29:20: "take up the English short" - I hear "shorts", which makes the meaning a bit hilarious. But it was very easy to cut the final s sound, I just did it, could you only do a spot PL here please, Tomas ? I already reuploaded a corrected version.

Thanks !

Kelly forgot to say king and I didn't notice it? Sorry about that. I have failed as a PL person!
Or maybe I'm just human lol

Thank you for PLing, Sonia! Exactly why we always need another pair of ears to catch these things. Your quick edit for Act 2 was perfect and that is now PL OK.

Meanwhile, Kelly can record that Canterbury line in a separate file and I'll have it inserted as soon as she does.

Act 3 is now ready for PL (the only act I had time to do today): https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/henryv_3_shakespeare_128kb.mp3

A very fun and dynamic act that has a rich range of characters and tones. Our voices are also all very nicely balanced in this one, too! I'm very pleased with how I cast this one; everyone gets to have their moment in the spotlight at one time or other :9:

Here's my correction to Canterbury Act I. The skipped word is in the middle of his long, winding, genealogy speech to Henry. I'm including the whole speech in this file to hopefully make for an easier insert. I also re-recorded a spot where I stuttered a little on the word "satisfaction."

Thanks, Kelly! I've corrected the Act 1 file now and it's ready for spot PL.

I've been able to start work on Act 4, but it's the longest act in the play and so I'll need the time tomorrow as well to finish it. Can't get as much done during worknights, unfortunately, but we are still on track to finish this week!

and PL ok now. As you didn't specify I wasn't sure whether you reinserted the entire speech or just that line, so I listened to the whole speech again to be on the safe side. (please specify next time when it's the longest speech in history  )

Thanks

It's both the longest speech IN history and the longest speech ABOUT history!

I really picked the worst possible spot to skip a word...

Oops, I'm sorry Sonia, I clearly should have mentioned I only added the corrections Kelly mentioned! But she did not re-record the entire speech, so even if I had pasted it in I believe nothing would have differed save those two changes anyway. I'm sorry to have put you through the boredom of that speech again  I believe scholars do generally consider it the most tedious thing Shakespeare ever wrote.

Anyway, Act 4 is now ready, and what an exciting act it is! I hope you have fun listening to it to compensate for the Canterbury experience  https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/henryv_4_shakespeare_128kb.mp3

oh I misunderstood her sentence then. My bad.

actually I didn't find the speech so boring, especially not in the wonderful way Kelly presented it. It was only the sheer length of it that crushed me a bit

wonderfully assembled  excellently acted by all. A very lively battle scene. But it was not boring for one second. All PL ok.

And wow that leaves us only one act before we can wrap up

Thanks, great job, Tomas !

And finally I present our concluding act: https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/henryv_5_shakespeare_128kb.mp3

And yes, that means we're finally done, after a little over four months! We made good progress along the way, sharpened our French accents (which can now certainly be used in other dramas here lol), and finally bade farewell to many characters we've playing for over two years now (believe it or not), from Henry V to Bardolph to Mistress Quickly to Nym to Pistol and the Page/Robin/Boy. It is bittersweet to be done with them, but I think we all did them justice, in the same way I think we did this set of history plays (including Richard II) justice, along with the comedic counterpoint of The Merry Wives of Windsor.

Here is the cast list for the catalog:
Sonia: Narrator; Katharine; Nym; Duke of Orleans; Earl of Cambridge; Earl of Salisbury; Jamy; Court & French Ambassador.
Tomas Peter: King Henry V; Pistol; Duke of Bourbon; Duke of York & Earl of Warwick.
Brad “Hamlet” Filippone: Duke of Exeter; Constable of France; Williams; Montjoy; Duke of Burgundy & Governor of Harfleur.
Kelly S. Taylor: Lewis the Dauphin; Hostess Nell Quickly; Boy; Archbishop of Canterbury; Duke of Bedford; Macmorris; Bates & First Lord.
Jenn Broda: Chorus; Bardolph; Gower; Duke of Gloucester; Bishop of Ely; Queen Isabel of France; Sir Thomas Grey; French Messenger & Second Lord.
Craig Franklin: Fluellen; King Charles VI of France; Earl of Westmoreland; Lord Scroop; Sir Thomas Erpingham & Grandpré.
Sandra Schmit: Alice; Rambures; French Soldier; English Herald & Third Lord.
We've yet to determine which Shakespearean waters we'll be sailing on next, but until then everyone, you deserve much congratulations and a well-earned rest from the Bard for a little while. See you again soon!

I know we'll be doing a comedy or a tragedy before we jump into the Henry VI plays, but I'm kind of looking forward to tackling them, partly because they are so complicated with multiple storylines happening at once. Not to mention the vast number of characters which is going to make casting a little complicated (I believe part two has more speaking roles than any other Shakespeare play!). And even though the Henry VI-Richard III sequence was written a few years before the plays we've just finished, there are still a few roles that we've already done. Chief among these is Bedford, who began in Henry IV part one as John of Lancaster.
And even though we won't be dividing up the parts for a long time now, since we'll be doing some other play first, I'd like to point out one thing (although it's probably obvious). Sir John Fastolfe of part one is, NOT Falstaff, who, after all, died in Henry V. But some editions of the play spell it as Falstaff so it's confusing, and I don't know which text we'll be using.

Anyway, as for our next play, I don't know if we're giving our opinions now or doing it by email at some point. I'm willing to do any play, of course, but if it's a comedy, let's do the controversial The Merchant of Venice, and if it's a tragedy, let's tackle the gory and horrific Titus Andronicus!
