Hi, I would like to do a play here.
Does it need to only have a specific amount of people in it, and will I need to edit it?
I found this one on Gutenberg: https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/53236.
It is by Effa E. Preston.

Thanks

A play can have as many people in it as it needs - if you look at the current MW you will see the plays already posted have from 5 to 11 people. Looks like yours might have 16 or so which is just fine.

While I do all the MW work for you in the One Act collection, in all other regards you are the BC for the play just as if it were a standalone project. So you need to yourself - or find other people to - PL parts, edit everything together, and PL the completed play. (Note that whoever edits can not PL the completed play - need different ears for that.) If you haven't edited before, well, that was true for all of us once and we're a friendly group ready to help you.

If you do offer the play, you need to collect the info described on the first posting so I can set up all the MW sections your play will need.

Thanks, Todd

Ok, here is the information:
  • A Thanksgiving Dream: A One Act Play for Primary Children By Effa E. Preston
  • Author is not on Wikipedia
  • Book is not on Wikipedia
  • There are 21 total parts
  • Copyright, 1922
  • The parts are: Stage Directions, Jack, Pilgrim Maid 1, Pilgrim Maid 2, Pilgrim Maid 3, Pilgrim Maid 4, Pilgrim Maid 5, Indian 1, Indian 2, Pumpkin 1, Pumpkin 2, Pumpkin 3, Turkey 1, Turkey 2, Turkey 3, Turkey 4, Turkey 5, Goblin 1, Goblin 2, Goblin 3, and Mother.
I think that's it. Let me know if I need to add anything else.

And if it's ok, I'd like to claim the stage directions for my play.

Thanks

Ok! :D

I just have one question: Do you or do I tell people if they can have the parts or not?

Thanks

Todd, for the newest play on the Gutenberg page if you scroll to the Bibliographic record it lists the author's dates as 1884-1975 so I don't think this is PD for non-Americans

I have a question about the stage directions. :help:
So it says that the kids sing Old Black Joe, but the words there are for a different song.
Do I say the part: Song—Air: OLD BLACK JOE, or do I skip that part?

You are correct. Thank you. I have added a warning notice to the first posting and MW.

It could be that the original words in the play were to have been sung to a tune by the name of Old Black Joe. I recommend that you just have people chant words rather than sing.

You can keep the words Song—Air: OLD BLACK JOE in the narration. (I would.)

Since casting is presumably gender neutral and first come, first served, it is easy for me to post all claims in the MW. It would be nice of you to recognize in the forum that the claims have been made, particularly if there are any specific things you want (such as chanting rather than singing, for example).

Thanks, Todd
