The Revolutions of Civilization, by William Matthew Flinders Petrie (1853 - 1942)

This project is now complete. All recordings can be downloaded from the catalog page:
https://librivox.org/the-revolutions-of-civilization-by-william-matthew-flinders-petrie/

British archaeologist & Egyptologist, Flinders Petrie, discusses the history of civilization in Egypt, Greece, Rome & medieval Europe & correlates contemporary events in different countries. A measure of the quality of civilisation is proposed by a comparison of artesian skill and effort judged in art, sculpture, and architecture between the timelines of radically different cultures. A special focus on Egypt presents evidence in a series of phases of art skill, rather than the leadership of a dynasty.(Summary by )

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Sounds interesting! I'll MC this for you.

MW added - and I've added myself as DPL, as this sounds indeed very interesting!

the first half of the book is up. Since his era, historical timelines have been made by a variety of authors , so maybe his work is somewhat less amazing and profound compared to todays standards.

if this interesting little book was slightly shorter, it could fit into a chapter of the short non-fiction works. This was certainly an enlightenment and the information will be useful when preparing a timeline of the personality of sovereign rulers compared to the achievements of their nations

Great, I'll try to catch up with you and PL as soon as possible.

If you like, you can always give me a more detailed summary in the interim. ;-)
