The Island Pharisees, by John Galsworthy (1867 - 1933)

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/island-pharisees-by-john-galsworthy/
Richard Shelton is wrestling with his conscience. As a member of the upper class at a time when the British Empire is at its height, he sees beyond the façade of their and his luxurious life.
He has become engaged to Antonia and during the course of the book he meets, notices and talks to people from the lower classes and comes to reject the idea that Britain and his own class is good, thus becoming something of a moral outcast.
The book follows his journey and is a scathing satire of life in his time.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I hope you are happy to do this! I'm sorry - I realise I should have asked first.

Here's the somewhat laborious PREFACE (8:52)

I would really prefer to leave it out! Is this permissible, do you think?

Thank you - in which case I might well ask for the prologue to be deleted. I'l decide at a later date, I think.

(At least you're enjoying some good weather . . .)
