I usually save the unedited form but I didn't do that with either acts.... :|
I could upload tomorrow morning a recording with and without noise reduction if that would help.

That is a sweet offer on your part. But I don't think it's necessary. In fact both of your sections are already marked PLOK. We're good. I was just curious to hear what the recordings sounded like before noise reduction. But I really shouldn't have even mentioned that. And it was a bad idea for me to suggest. I plan to merge your recordings into the Act I and III drafts that are in progress. I'll do that today. After that we'll only need stage direction to have a complete Act I. So, please don't bother uploading another Act I or Act III, for that matter. Best wishes, Brian :D

When I saw "Dewman" I thought it was a male character, umm nope, a female soprano. oops. Sorry. I submit this for the punishment of your ears.

Hardly punishment. I'd say it is music to my ears. And I thought it was pretty darn good!

I will check it in to the MW, but I'm not quite ready to say that it is Ready for PL. Now, I have to apologize. We had many messages exchanged early on in this topic as regards singing. That said, there was no reason for me to suspect that all claiming roles for this play would have read through all of these. In the end, I decided, with the wise counsel of many others who provided guidance, that we would approach this as a recital of a play. That did make sense, in that the libretto is essentially a play script. It does not identify specific music, though of course we all know that H&G is normally performed as an opera.

This post is typical of several posts on topic that identify the problems attendant on approaching this project as a "musical" one. viewtopic.php?p=2190141#p2190141

So, before I can PL your section I have to ask. What tune were you singing? Is it PD? Those factors might apply. But the thing is that the libretto text that we are reading from does not "demand" that Dewman sing or identify a particular melody (I suppose it would really be an aria in an operatic performance). I'm sure that Todd is monitoring this topic, but I don't know if we will care to weigh in on your recording.

Can I ask another question: How would you feel about reciting the Dewman stanza? I'm sure that you could get lyrical, but I'm not entirely sure that it's OK to perform the text as a song that may or may not be PD. When I decided it best to proceed as a recital I didn't bother to research the music any further.

Again, I apologize. What's your feeling?

Sorry for the trouble. The " tune" I am singing is the original Dewman tune from the opera/play. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XR8fCqY0fnw. I would be happy to recite this as a lyrical poem. I thought I heard someone singing so I did as well.

Oh, it's not trouble for me. I feel bad that I didn't explain better, at all really, when you volunteered. I think the singing in the recordings have been tra-la-la's. I don't know if it's possible tralala without sounding like you are singing. :hmm:

Tricia wrote this so I sang. " If the character breaks out in song, with the lyrics written out in this text, then yes - the character can sing that part, with a fully-researched PD tune."

Indeed. When I started trying to research this project and the matter of music that we could possibly use I began with https://imslp.org/wiki/H%C3%A4nsel_und_Gretel_(Humperdinck,_Engelbert) and I came away with the understanding, or misunderstanding, that some arrangements were PD and some were not. But I suppose that if we could document that the one used for the YT performance is PD we could use the recording you did.

Would you prefer that we use your sung version or would you prefer a spoken one?

Thanks!
