Coffee Break Collection #38 - HORSES

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/coffee-break-collection-038-horses-by-various/

This is the 38th Coffee Break Collection, in which Librivox readers select and read stories or poems, fiction or non-fiction pieces of fifteen minutes' duration or less, suitable for short commutes and coffee breaks. The subject for this collection is "HORSES" . Michele Fry, BC.
  • There is no need to pre-claim. You will read from text you provide.

Where do I find the text? Any Public Domain text is acceptable. Project Gutenberg is a good place to search for material, and you might run across authors/stories mentioned in other stories you are reading.

New to recording? This is a great place to start. Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!

If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Level of prooflistening: standard. Michele Fry (msfry) will DPL. (Note: if you are new, please read the PL FAQ). Be sure to edit and proof listen your own files before submitting!

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Well, having suggested this topic, I suppose I should probably provide a first contribution.

Here's "Sally" from Horse Tales by Mary Boyle: https://librivox.org/uploads/lynnet/cbc38_sally_wa_128kb.mp3 (10:34)
https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/62771

I can't seem to find any birth and death dates for this author, so I'm going to assume she's PD for me in Canada. The book was published in 1905.
Winnifred

Readers Wanted:
Where the Blue Begins by Christopher Morley (humorous novel about a "Synthetic Hound" named Haphazard Gissing I.)
Potemkin Village by Fletcher Pratt (science fiction novelet)

I was hoping you'd show up to kick things off. I recorded one last week, but it's so dang depressing (about horse abuse), I may not use it. I'll probably pick one from your book, Horse Tales. See ya tomorrow!

PL Notes The Newborn, this is a cool story. Did you know this book has been recorded for LV as a group project. I might try it as a solo if I ever get time. It would be a fun challenge and culturally interesting.

1:42 repeat while the doctor began
2:01 slurred phrase "slapped the colt", I hear something like "sapped the coat"
1:03 and 7:45 mispronounced as San Suey, but in all other places it is said correctly. San Sou ci'

That's weird. I was trying to say 'chop suey!'

Newborn is PL OK. And like my dear old papa used to say to us kids on car trips: "Chop suey, or phooey on youey!" Translation: "Hurry up or I'll leave you behind." He never did.

Thanks Algy, that brought tears to my eyes. Reading is PL OK but I think you have an underscore in your title (in the droving_days) that doesn't belong there.
