Letters to teachers, and other papers of the hour
by Alexander, Hartley Burr, 1873-1939
Publication date: 1919

From the author’s Preface

They were written during war-time [that is, WWI], and while directed to the internal condition rather than the external affairs of our nation, they are influenced and inspired by the omnipresent fact of the international catastrophe. The problem with which they deal is the problem of reconstruction where it is most fundamental, and that is in the education of the American citizen; for the economic and social difficulties which today we face can find no lasting solution except it be in a state of mind, a national state of mind, which shall unite our citizenship in a unified purpose; and this it is the business of education to define and achieve.

Not so far as I can tell, which is a pity! If someone wants to take it on as a group project, I’d be happy to assist; there’s great material in it. Homeschoolers might appreciate it, too.

That is unfortunate. I would like to take it up. Do you have this book broken down into sections, or do we go all in page wise? What is your plan?

My only connection with this is that I suggested it as a great opportunity for a group reading. What is needed is an administrator (MC) with the time and talent to set it up. Hopefully that will happen soon. It looks like there are already several of us who are willing to read a chapter or two.

Just correcting that
What it needs is a book coordinator BC to set it up and run it. :D .

Evidence, if any is needed, that I’m not the person to lead this!
