Surprise House, by Abbie Farwell Brown (1871 - 1927)

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/surprise-house-by-abbie-farwell-brown/

Our story begins just after Nan Corliss, an eccentric old lady, dies and leaves her strange old house in Crowfield to her nephew, Dr. Owen Corliss, his wife, daughter Mary, and son John. The Corliss family move in, only to find that Aunt Nan has left practical jokes, mysterious clues based on Shakespeare’s poetry, and surprises, both in the library bequeathed specifically to Mary and elsewhere in the house, for the family to find. (Summary by Winnifred Assmann)
Source text (please read only from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/69521

Target completion date: 2023-06-30

Prooflistening level: Standard
Prospective PLs, please see the Guide for Proof-listeners.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

So, the MW is filled. But I think we stay here for some days, maybe we will get a DPL.

Yes, I'm hoping for that too. I'll probably start recording this next week, but I've got a few other pieces to finish first.

Cheers,
Winnifred

Had just a couple of spare minutes, so I recorded the preface (a one-verse poem and a note): https://librivox.org/uploads/lorda/surprisehouse_00_brown_128kb.mp3 (1:04).

Probably not worth PLing until the first chapter or two go up.

Cheers,
Winnifred
