Ladies Whose Bright Eyes: A Romance (1st edition), by Ford Madox Ford (1873 - 1939)

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/ladies-whose-bright-eyes-a-romance-1911-version-by-ford-madox-ford/

After a train accident, one Mr. Sorrell finds himself transported back to the Middle Ages, where he is mistaken for a Greek slave who works miracles. As he becomes acclimated to the customs and way of life of the time, and then as he falls in love, he finds himself feeling increasingly at home in the past. But will he be able to stay there? For the time being, I'll need a little more time than usual to PL sections that come in on weekdays. Thanks for your patience.

I would like to be the DPL for this project.

Also, there are two editions of this novel, one published in 1911, and an extensively revised version published in 1935. I'm using the earlier edition (of course) and wanted to specify that this is the first edition in case the 1935 revision is eventually recorded after it becomes PD. If this isn't necessary, or if there's a better way to specify the edition, I'll be happy to make changes as advised.

Hi Scarbo,

I like to MC this project for you.

I found a scan of the edition you'd preffered at the first post - with the same errors that are discripe in the 'TRANSCRIBER NOTES':
https://archive.org/details/ladieswhosebrigh00fordrich/page/n5/mode/2up (reprint of the 1911 version in 1919)

If you like to use this version (the scan), I can change this in the database.

Give me some minutes and I'll be back with the MW.

I added you (Scarbo) as DPL.

Greetings, Bernd

Thank you, Bernd! I somehow missed the place in the template generator where I can specify that the first section is section 0 instead of 1. Is there a way that you can add a section 0?

I'd like to claim Part IV and the L'Envoi, which translates to Chapters 18-27.
If that's too much, just let me know how much I can claim.

Hi Scarbo,

I've changed the section numbers in the MW and set the flag in the database.

In the template generator you will find in the chapter 'Additional information about the project' the field 'Is there a preface or introduction that will be read as a separate file?' - you have to mark 'Yes'. Then you got a section 0.

Greetings, Bernd.

Part IV and L'Envoi are all yours! Thank you for claiming! Since you're not a new reader and are likely to get these sections all done within two months, it's not too much.

The MW is filled, so I moved the project to 'Readers Wanted: Books'.

Thanks again for section 17! Nicely done, as always. I have some PL notes:

- At the beginning, could you say "Part 4, chapter 1"?
- At 1:52, "as if it had been a village green," you say "that if it had been a village green"
- At 5:06, "and the wondering eyes of their wives," I hear "and the wandering eyes of their wives"
- At 5:18, "dotted under the protection of the enormous cathedral," you say "dotted upon the protection of the enormous cathedral"
- At 7:52, could you edit out the first take of "The men all around him were talking at the tops..."?
- At 13:40, "Mr. Sorrell felt that lie was about to conduct a sane and ordinary business interview," could you read "Mr. Sorrell felt that he was about to conduct a sane and ordinary business interview"?
- At 14:45, could you edit out the first take of "The Dean threw his head back..."?
- At 18:06, "the Dean commented," you say "the Dean commenced"
- At 19:49, could you edit out the first take of "That you were preparing..."?
- At 20:36, "what would the marriage profit her," you say "what would be the marriage profit her"
- At 22:06, could you edit out the first take of "having been prompted by Dionissia"?
- At 28:49, could you edit out the "I am very glad" before "I am glad to hear that"?
- At 40:27, could you edit out the first take of "where magic is practised with"?
- At 42:31, there's a stumble at "with white cords to her sleeves"
- At 44:43, could you edit out the coughing after "he let his lips move for a moment"?
- At 46:02, could you say "End of part 4, chapter 1"?
For the time being, I'll need a little more time than usual to PL sections that come in on weekdays. Thanks for your patience.
