Hello, I am new to LibriVox but I would like to read Chapter III: Gargantua as a Baby, Chapter IV: The Royal Tailor's Bill for Gargantua's Suit, and Chapter V: Gargantua at Play.

If chosen I do have a couple of questions. 1.) Will the captions for the pictures need to be read or can they be skipped? 2.) What do "Dr." and "Ells" mean in the bill that the Tailor gave? Hope to hear from you soon.

Ell
plural noun: ells
a former measure of length (equivalent to six handbreadths) used mainly for textiles, locally variable but typically about 45 inches in England and 37 inches in Scotland.
Which seems right
Dr. some version of debtor?
further research gives
The terms debit (DR) and credit (CR) have Latin roots: debit comes from the word debitum, meaning "what is due," and credit comes from creditum, meaning "something entrusted to another or a loan."
so debit seems a better answer

so it's a bill for the king itemising the amount of cloth the tailor needed to clothe his son.

Wonder why hands were wider in England than in Scotland :D ?

Hello there and welcome to librivox! I will assign you to that section. I have a couple questions for you as well  1) How would you like to be credited on your reader page? I can 2) Is there a website you would like to have linked to your librivox reader page as well?

And to answer your questions 1) Nope. You can skip the captions! And 2) I'm not too sure, but I think Anne got that figured out above :D

Thanks so much!

It's a tall tale.....
Bill

How did it get so late so soon?
It’s night before it’s afternoon.
December is here before it’s June.
My goodness how the time has flewn.
How did it get so late so soon?
