Yeah, I tried, but the frequencies of the sound are too complex, and they're too close to the frequencies of your voice, to do any sort of filtering.

Thanks for trying . I just had a good idea which should have occurred to me years ago about how to splice without making it too obvious. That is, to splice into the original audacity file, unedited, so there will be no differences created by noise reduction, tempo changes etc.

For some reason I am being especially pernickity about this recording, so I'm going to redo an early chapter where my voice was raspy. I want to get you the first 9 or 10 chapters as a group, so it'll probably be much later today or tomorrow before I can do that.

(NOT that I expect you to drop your life for 5 hours to do nothing but DPL this project straight through¡! )

Where do you look, when you're searching for possible key words?

Summary without spoilers coming up.

I don't understand the question. Where do I look? Nowhere, really. I try to think what terms someone might search for when looking for this book or one like it.

I haven't gotten far in this, but I'd say so far:
mystery, murder, Furneaux (he's the main character in a lot of these books, right? Maybe someone would search for him), Scotland Yard... not sure what else.

Maybe post-WWI?

Thanks.

My question wasn't clear. I tried to go to similar books hoping they were listed somewhere in small print, but no. Yet I need prompts -- well, would like prompts.

Maybe it would be a good idea to start a forum thread to list possibilities that often go with particular genres? (Have not thought this through). I mention it mainly because I'm always a bit baffled when I get to that point -- even though in principle it would be really helpful for listeners -- who find the genres too general OR who want more info than just the genre.

Anyhoo.

Yeah, the keywords don't show up on the catalog page. They do on the Archive pages, though - but there the genres don't show. The keywords can be used on our search page, but there's no way to browse them.

Here's a search on Archive, in our LibriVox collection, for "mystery detective", so it should pull up that sort of project. You could look through them and see what has been added as keywords. :hmm:

Great. Many thanks, you super LV

So when you wrote"here's... Archive" I wonder what "there" corresponds to your "here"...

New to me too ...

This is altogether a better mystery, also better written, than the last (though he is VERY verbose). Hope PLing is easier, as recording was.

PL goes fine with either of them. :)

I have a very strange theory about this one, but don't want to post it in case I'm totally off in left field (which I probably am).

Well, the sound of the gunshot came from the cliff area, right? I wonder if it was an echo, and that the shot did actually come from the house.

I'm probably way off base, though. Chances are that such an echo wouldn't have been heard the same way by the artist and the others in different places. :hmm:
