I'm new to Librivox, so please forgive me (and feel free to tell me it's wrong) if something isn't according to the protocol.

I've read this book aloud to family before, and would love to read it as a solo - provided I can get the tech stuff figured out. My test & short recordings aren't done yet, but figured I'd put the title out there to see if there's even any interest from someone to BC, MC, ABCDEFG, or XYZ it. (and whatever other terms I haven't learned yet:)

You're in the right spot to put a book suggestion!

We have 2 recordings of Men of Iron already: one completed that was collaborative (https://librivox.org/men-of-iron-by-howard-pyle/) and one that is ongoing as a dramatic reading (i.e. each character's voice has its own dedicated reader; you can find it here: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=88484). Unfortunately, it does not look like there are any parts left to take in the DR (dramatic reading).

You can totally do it as a solo (later on probably - we strongly recommend you read a few sections for group projects before launching a solo as it is such a large time commitment). We have a choice of voice policy where we welcome recordings of the same book by different readers. Listeners can then choose to listen to the voice or recording they like best.

It looks like we don't have all of Pyle's work recorded (his author catalog page: https://librivox.org/author/303?primary_key=303&search_category=author&search_page=1&search_form=get_results).

As I love to make lists of books, I would be happy to make a list of unrecorded books by him with links to public domain online texts if you like. I won't be able to make the list though until Friday/Saturday when I get home from traveling. :)

Thank you! Sorry it took so long to respond; I was focusing on getting the 1-minute test done & another group project, and forgot to keep track of this thread.

I would like to still do 'Men of Iron', if possible. It's been one of my favorite books since childhood, & I'm not familiar with the others on the list, so figured it'd be best to solo on a familiar book first off. Also, I have two eleven-year-old nephews that I'd like to read it for. (:

For a solo project, am I correct that it needs an MC & PL/DPL, but not a BC?

I am definitely going to have to check out some of those other books though! I've only read a few by Pyle, but really liked them.

No worries. That is correct! You will be the BC for yourself if that makes sense. You can follow the instructions here to start a solo if you have done a few sections for a group reading and feel confident:viewtopic.php?t=13513
