High altars; the battle-fields of France and Flanders as I saw them, by John Oxenham (1852 - 1941)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: [https://librivox.org/high-altars-by-william-arthur-dunkerley/]

A first-hand account of World War I, with detailed descriptions of scenes from the front. (Summary by Victor Dorff)
Source text (please read only from this text!): https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=uc1.b4008128&view=1up&seq=7

Target completion date: 2023-06-01

Prooflistening level: Standard
Prospective PLs, please see the Guide for Proof-listeners.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Magic Window is ready! We will leave the post on the Launch Pad for another day or two to see if we can pick up a DPL.

The book is cataloged under the author's real name, William Arthur Dunkerley, which is already cross-indexed in our system with the John Oxenham name.

You will want to log into the MW using the BC login link just below the MW box, and go ahead and add your chapter titles as they appear in the book. They will be entered into the catalog the way you enter them here, once the project is finished and compiled. As you record the sections, upload them the same way you do as a reader, but you will also need to enter them into the MW as well. When I was starting out doing solos and BC-ing, I looked at the posts created by people I knew did a lot of BC-ing or solos and followed their formats. That helped me a lot.

Happy reading/recording!

Here are four of the poems interspersed between the chapters.

Please let me know if the tone is what you're looking for before I start reading the longer chapters.

Thanks.

I tried clicking the link below the MW, but the response was that I do not have permission for that area.

By the way, what does BC stand for?

Thanks.

BC is Book Coordinator. Sometimes the link denies me when I first click on it, but if I immediately go back to the page and click again, it works the second time. I don't know why that is. Let me know if that doesn't work for you.

These sound very good and are PL OK! As the reader you are free to deliver the text in any tone you choose, but what you are doing sounds great to me :D

This may also happen if you have first signed in the uploader with the universal librivox password, so it doesn't let you log in with your own password. You need to "log out", then log back in with your Magic Window password. If you don't have one yet, you'll need to create your own password for the Magic Window, which you should then also use for the uploader too. Here are instructions on how to set up your password: "Accessing the System - First Time Login" at https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Soloists:_How_to_update_the_Magic_Window
Please ask if anything is unclear.

By the way, thank you for your offer, but it probably won't be needed at this time. When you are looking for projects to PL, you can check if a project already has a proof-listener assigned from the Magic Window: above the section table, there is a line saying "This project has a dedicated proof-listener who will listen to all sections: [name here, if there is someone assigned]"

Hopefully you can find something else as interesting to PL

Section 2 is PL OK!
I do have a suggestion, optional of course, at 18:18, it is written as "S. Joseph", but I think it is better read as "Saint Joseph", what do you think?

Overall an amazing listening experience, very moved at the mention of the November poppies...

Thank you for your kind words and your suggestion. I have corrected the reference. The time, not surprisingly, hasn't changed.
