I still have 6 days, but if you would like to make it, please do. I'll claim another one. :D
Speaking of Bengt, I need to tap his shoulder and remind him that he offered to explain the You-Tube process for us on a 1st Mondays Zoom Session. April was his target date for that.

We've set Unnatural Death back to Validation, in preparation for changing the summary/description. Just an FYI in case someone was going to claim it and notice it's gone. :)

Thanks. I "zoomed in" on the bed, to make it more prominent.

Its a damn shame we have to hustle so the huksters can get our audiobooks up on their money-making platforms in a jiffy. I guess we need a "review board" double/triple checking for accuracy before we link our artwork to the catalog.

I moved this from the working thread to the chat thread. :)

When I wrote that, I was thinking about the YouTube channel run by BengtW, although it would also apply to the apps out there. I wasn't picturing hucksters, but the more legitimate distributors of our material. ;)

But I was picturing hucksters, like this one I found a few days ago: The Story of Tuan Mac Cairill on a youtube channel run by an unknown person. John's name was stripped off as well as all reference to Librivox, but I recognized the voice immediately as I have listened to Irish Fairy Tales a few times (which contains the story), and did the cover for the project, too. I checked to verify it was John, and sure enough, it was! The Unknown person also made a different cover of his own from an illustration in the book.

And if it is a commercialised channel you've helped him/her earn money :D And anyone clicking on that link will too. Bengt's channel is not commercialised.
And all our recordings and covers are public domain.

Well, since that channel doesn't use our covers, they're not who benefited from us fixing the cover on that Mephistopheles project.

PD isn't my point, which is we ought to have a review process before we upload covers with mistakes, and not be rushed into doing it for hucksters' benefits. They may be within the law but they are hucksters all the same. Stripping off credits is almost as bad as claiming credit in my book.

I try to review our covers when I get a chance, but it isn't until they are uploaded.

Hello,

I'm thinking of creating the cover image for my solo project that I'm working on. I read through the CD Covers wiki page and the instructions are not entirely clear on exactly what to include in the final ZIP file.

I understand the creation of the various sizes of the cover image. The part that gets weird comes after "Convert the file to PDF format". Converting the image to a PDF is simple enough. But I'm confused about where the templates come into play.

There are 4 template files each with completely different layouts. Which are we meant to use?
Does "convert the image to PDF" mean "insert the image into the/a template, and save that document as PDF"?

Or is the PDF meant to be *just* the image?

Ok, so on further reading (of the Volunteer CD Covers thread) it looks like the PDF is supposed to be made from just the Jewel Case template (instruction number 6). But that raises more questions about instruction #1: If only one PDF is to be included in the ZIP file, what's with all those other templates??

I soo confuuused :?

Later:
OooooKkkkk - I found the cover making tutorial link on the wiki page. I guess that confirms what I surmised. But the tutorial link should be much more prominent, I think. Like BOLD and HUGE letters: CHECK OUT THE TUTORIAL HERE. You know, for idiots like me.

Still, the question remains: What's with the other templates??

People use whatever template they want or works with their computer and or image program.

Anne

I'm referring to the files:
CDJewelcase
CoverBooklet
Coverhorizontal
OrigamiCDsleeve

that are contained within the CdCoverTemplates[Openoffice/Word].zip files

The instructions ask for the PDF to be created using the Jewel Case template. But is it acceptable to use any of the other templates? If so, the instructions should reflect that to avoid confusion.

I didn't write the instructions, they were before my time and I don't have a Mac - I repeat they are suggestions people have made because they found them useful. The advantage of the first group is that the suggested wording is included.
if you look at the pdfs in the catalogue you will find that there is quite a variety.
The image-only files need to be the sizes indicated so that LV and IA display them correctly - the pdfs are only used for those transferring their files to CD disk so the choice is yours.

You create your image at 600x600 5"x5", or whatever you like, and use that in your CD case (using whatever template you prefer, or making your own as I did to cover every kind of CD case out there). You convert the cd case template you have completed to a pdf, name it title_YYMM (eg deirdre_2303.pdf)

Create 3 image files:

300 x 300 title_YYMM (eg deirdre_2303.jpg)
300 x 300 title_YYMM_itemimage (eg deirdre_2303_itemimage.jpg)
150x150 title_YYMM_thumb (eg deirdre_2303_thumb.jpg)

Put the 4 files into a zip folder and upload to the Covers folder in the MC drop-down menu.

Post notice of your upload to the Covers Working Thread along with links to the catalog page and the image(s) used.

Hope this helps. Yes the page causes confusion and needs to be simplified. I have been forgetting to take a look at the wiki.
