Volunteers outside the USA: Robert Graves died in 1985. This person's work may still be protected by copyright in countries where copyright duration is determined by the author's death date. In Europe this is 70 years; in Canada it is 70 years for authors who died after 1971; and in Australia it is 70 years for authors who died after 1955.
Poems from Robert Graves published by the Augustan Books of Poetry. (Summary by KevinS)
Source text (please read only from this text!): https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/006673554

Target completion date: 2023-06-01

Prooflistening level: Standard
Prospective PLs, please see the Guide for Proof-listeners.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I've looked more carefully at the poetry and I think I'll only need 2 sections.

Hi, Kevin, I'll set this up for you. I'm thinking of making the catalog title "Augustan Books of Modern Poetry: Robert Graves" (from the cover); would that make sense to you too? (I don't think you'd need to put all that in the actual recording.)

Hi Kevin
I would be happy to DPL this for you because I am interested to hear Graves' poetry. The problem is that Graves is not PD for me so I don't know if that excludes me from PLing his work.

Graves' book Goodbye To All That is one of the best books I have read on WW1.

Perhaps someone else has a better understanding of copyright than do I, but I don't think it a violation to simply listen to a recording; one must not download, copy, or distribute a protected recording. It is similar to reading a protected writing on the Internet. We do this all the time.

I will run the files through the Checker myself to confirm that they are okay in terms of technical matters and perhaps you could simply listen.

OK, I will listen to them and let you know. I would like to hear them anyway

Thanks. We'll see if we have broken any rules.

For my part, I have run both sections through the Checker program and they have passed.

I think it might be a problem even to listen (since the files I think are temporarily downloaded when they're opened for listening) -- I'll see what the more-informed admins say and report back.

I think there may be another problem here as Hathi does not seem to want to give me access to the text. I know you have only asked for Standard PL so I don't need to follow the text but I think that for poetry it is important to get the words right.
Overall there are too many potential problems so it may be better for you to find a US DPL :(

Yes, you're right that we need a US PL'er, Alan. Not many admins have had a chance to weigh in, but the ones who have deal with this issue regularly and they agree that the files aren't PD outside the US even for listening. Thanks for offering, though! (Do I want to know what your signature line means?)

It is a quote from Shakespeare's Seven Ages of Man speech in As You Lke It. I am in the sixth age, old but not quite yet senile

Thank you. I've never heard anyone weigh in on this. It's good to know.
