That feeling when you have contributed so many articles from Encyclopedia Britannica that you have to first check if you haven't done this one before
Hi Piotrek81, You can rest assured that you never recorded this entry before, for the SNF during my tenure as BC. I assuredly would have remembered the name from its incredible association with--believe it or not--marshmallows dipped in caramel! The first entry for "Modjeska" in Wikipedia says this: "A Modjeska is a confection consisting of marshmallow dipped in caramel. It was created in the 1880s in Louisville, Kentucky by confectioner Anton Busath (1845-1908) to honor Shakespearean actress Helena Modjeska, who was performing there in the US debut production of Ibsen's A Doll's House."https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modjeska_(confection)
Thanks for this! Listening to the provisions of the 1890 act, what struck me first and foremost was simply that Congress should have included an provision for inflation! A $5000 fine would be nothing today. The decree against Standard Oil under the Sherman Anti-Trust Act would be a natural for a future SNF read -- hint, hint! https://www.law.cornell.edu/supremecourt/text/221/1https://www.law.cornell.edu/supremecourt/text/221/1
I have quite the cold which prevents me from recording at the moment. Since this is relatively slow-moving, would you mind reserving a section for me please? It will probably be a pretty short one in any case.
Cheers, Ava.

Hi Availle, I'm sorry to hear you are down with a cold! Take care, and get well soon! I've reserved #11 for you.
I'm currently recording an article for Rapunzelina's National Geographic collection describing an expedition to Franz Josef Land and decided to take a look at what the Encyclopedia Britannica has to say about the place. Here's the result https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/snf095_franzjosefland_encyclopediabritannica_pn81_128kb.mp3 duration 8:16 although I imagine it will probably be hard to follow without a map in front of you.
Want to hear some PREPARATION TIPS before you press "record"? Listen to THIS and THIS
I contributed one Whitehead essay a few collections back where he makes an argument for the popularity of weird fiction in the marketplace and how it isn't being served by the leading publications. Whitehead himself penned quite a few seminal pieces of weird fiction over the years, using as a basis for many of them the local folklore and superstitions of the West Indies where he dwelled for many years. Here's an essay from him discussing many of those beliefs and how they have spread over time in the Virgin Islands and elsewhere in the Caribbean.

Hi Piotr - Can you post a link to the text of this article? Thanks!

I'm looking to read a couple of sections from THE BOOKLOVER AND HIS BOOKS BY HARRY LYMAN KOOPMAN, Litt.D starting with Thick Paper and Thin.
Here is my one minute test as I haven't read anything for Librivox in a number of years.
Thick Paper and Thin from The Booklover and His Books is a good choice for the nonfiction collection. Once you have recorded it, just upload it and post the link with the relevant info as laid out in the first post of this thread.
