The Web of Indian Life, by Sister Nivedita (Margaret E. Noble)

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-web-of-indian-life-by-sister-nivedita/
The Web of Indian Life, written by Sister Nivedita (Irish-born Margaret E. Noble) and published in 1904, is a collection of essays that describes India at the turn of the 20th century. “What a beautiful old world it was in which I spent those months! It moved slowly, to a different rhythm from anything that one had known. It was a world in which a great thought or intense emotion was held as the true achievement, distinguishing the day as no deed could. It was a world in which men in loin-cloths, seated on door-sills in dusty lanes, said things about Shakespeare and Shelley that some of us would go far to hear. It was full of gravity, simplicity, and the solid and enduring reality of great character and will.”

Prospective PLs, please see the Guide for Proof-listeners.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I'm full up on MC projects, so I am not MC'ing this. But I wanted to mention that the reason the formatting isn't showing up in your post (and the coding for it is) is because you have BBCode turned off.

Go to your User Control Panel, Board Preferences, and select Edit Posting Preferences. Change "Enable BBCode by default" to Yes, and save the change.

To fix this post, go to the pencil icon in the upper right corner of your post, scroll to the bottom, and uncheck the box "Disable BBCode", then submit. :)

Section 1: Very enjoyable listening!
Please increase the volume on the whole track by 6 to meet the Librivox specifications that the dB fall between 86 and 92. Here is a link to the checker that you can download to your computer and check each file before you upload it. https://cgjennings.ca/projects/checker/
Let me know if you have any difficulties with this.

Section 2:
7:20 Missing phrase "it is right and natural that he should be guided by this wish of hers." Occurring in text just after "that his mother could not bear a separation;" p. 23.
9:50 optional edit: should be "Never can I forget"; I heard "Nor can I forget"
17:14 should be "For what thought is it that speaks supremely to India in the great word 'Mother'"; I heard "For what thought is it that speaks supremely to the idea of the great word 'Mother'" (isn't the brain wild and wonderful?)
