and here is section 21, I heard back from Brian. So chapter 23 can also be done soon. :9:

https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/fairymythology_21_paton_128kb.mp3
Recording time: 19:52 min.

There was one abbreviation "gl." that I had no idea what it meant, so I spoke this as two letters, instead of saying the whole word. If you know or can find out what it means, I'd gladly correct it.

Thanks

and another shorty:

https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/fairymythology_23_paton_128kb.mp3
Recording time: 5:50 min.

and now comes the longest chapter in the book, I suspect it will be over 40 minutes long. Will take a bit to get through this one.

PL ok! There was a lot packed into this chapter. Lots of discussion on language and names, which I found interesting. And of course, it's stories like this that make me really wish I liked chess. But I just.... don't.

I don't know what the gl. might be either. Evidently, lamia are from Libyan-Greek mythology, but I think identifying it with that would be a stretch. My first thought was "gloss," in the sense that lamia might be a gloss of the word "mar," but I don't think it is... :hmm: So it's probably best to leave it as is.

Trying to think of a classical/European language that begins with gl and coming up empty...

EDIT: Galician??? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galician_language

me neither...well I "can" play chess in the way that I know which figurines are allowed which moves  doesn't mean I could really be called a chessplayer.
My first thought was "gloss,"
actually I first had guessed "glossary", as the word could be maybe found in the word index of this dictionary she mentions...but I dropped that idea, in case it's wrong it's best to leave the abbreviation.
I don't really think they would have used a Galician reference back then, especially since Lamia clearly is from Greek mythology...well, I will have to live with the fact that I will have one abbreviation that I couldn't figured out  compared to the challenges of this book, it's a small drawback.

Thanks for the quick PL :)

thank you Devorah :) good news: I edited the huge chapter (24) now, but lots of Irish still to be corrected. Waiting for Brian to get back to me. The next section (25) is a lot shorter and finished editing, only ONE Irish word to be consulted. So that one may come in before section 24

here is a very short section 27:

https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/fairymythology_27_paton_128kb.mp3
Recording time: 2:40 min.

Sections 24, 25 and 26 are edited but awaiting Irish confirmation for some words.

and another longer chapter ready, some Irish, but all words that I had before, and so could check up already.

Moral of this chapter: if you know some magic tricks, don't teach them to the cunning mistress or you're doomed  one would have thought Merlin was a little bit cleverer  it was highly obvious what Niniane planned

27 and 28 PL ok!

Poor Merlin. One look at a pretty face, and all his wisdom isn't enough to save him.

a real shorty today:

https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/fairymythology_31_paton_128kb.mp3
Recording time: 3:23 min.

The previous two sections have some Irish still to insert and I was too lazy to edit them yet

Now comes another long one, but the last really long one for the rest of the book. Phewww.

also finished the longer section 30. A lengthy Middle English episode, hope I made it understandable.

The knight in the final Perceval episode was a bit pathetic in giving up so fast  if the mule didn't budge, what hindered him from leaving on foot ?

and another shorty. Sometimes I find Paton is unnecessarily repetitive. :? I think she is often saying the same things in different words.

yay now come the shorter sections :9: I managed to get the first excursus edited:

https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/fairymythology_34_paton_128kb.mp3
Recording time: 4:00 min.

https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/fairymythology_35_paton_128kb.mp3
Recording time: 2:12 min.

https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/fairymythology_36_paton_128kb.mp3
Recording time: 2:56 min.

https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/fairymythology_37_paton_128kb.mp3
Recording time: 0:44 min.

It's so relaxing to be doing short sections, instead of these overly long ones.

and three more, while I was at it:

https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/fairymythology_38_paton_128kb.mp3
Recording time: 1:40 min.

https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/fairymythology_40_paton_128kb.mp3
Recording time: 0:49 min.

https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/fairymythology_41_paton_128kb.mp3
Recording time: 0:47 min.

these are basically only lists of names, not even sure they are of interest, but it also felt weird leaving this chapter out for no reason. Section 39 is a huge list of appearances of the name Morgain, I nearly capitulated there, but I plodded through. But I didn't feel like editing this part tonight
