First published as a booklet in 1883, "The Dominion in 1983" describes the author's ideas of what life in Canada is like one hundred years into the future. The author's name, Ralph Centennius, is a pseudonym. (Summary by Kristin Hand)
Source text (please read only from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/4290

Target completion date: 2023-02-28

Prooflistening level: Standard
Prospective PLs, please see the Guide for Proof-listeners.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

PL OK! Some of the sentiments expressed still exist (such as, fear of being absorbed - or at least, culturally diluted - by the USA). No such thing as only one political party, though!

90 million people in 1981? We're just approaching 40 million now.

All PL OK!

Oh, so many comments to make! These kinds of looking forward are always intriguing - some things are somewhat accurate, others are "mere delusion" (as spoken of in the text when discussing using balloons for travel). And, of course, the things that were still done in the future utopia that are considered wrong - or at least harmful - today. The domination of the Anglo-Saxons over most of the world, the burning of coal, etc.

Thanks for the enjoyable listen!
