HTTP 500 error when trying to generate new project

Hi, just I filled out the template for a new project, but after clicking the button to generate the code, I got a HTTP error 500, "This page isn't working" in Chrome. When I clicked to return to the previous page, it brought me all the way back out to the "Want to start a solo recording" page; i.e., I lost the data I entered into the template fields. I completed the template again, tried again to generate the code, and got the same error. (The second time, I printed-screened the new project template to keep a copy )

Is this perhaps related to the recent update? Or perhaps I'm doing something wrong?

Hi, update with further info: I just tried the same steps in Microsoft Edge and got the same 500 error. I tried also in Firefox and it failed (though it did not give me an error message, just a blank page.) I also tried a third time in Chrome, after logging out and back in, still received the same error.

(In case something is showing up behind the scenes -- the project is Piers the Plowman.)

I don't think it's a browser problem. It's only happening with some books and not others. I think it's related to the author not being in the system.

Meanwhile, the PG edition is listed as follows:

The Vision and Creed of Piers Ploughman, Volume 1, by William Langland and Thomas Wright

If you fill out the template again using just Thomas Wright as the author, it goes through just fine. I've posted the code below. Your MC can add Langland to the database and to the project after you've posted it in the LaunchPad.

Author is William Langland and translator is Kate M. Warren. I didn't find either in the database when I filled out the template -- I guess they'll need to be added first?

OK, in that case, maybe just wait a bit until we see if there is a quick fix for this. Otherwise, yes, they would need to be added to the database and then you should be able to fill in the template normally.

For now, I have entered both the author and translator directly into the author database, so you should be able to start the project.

Thanks so much! I was able to generate the template and have posted it on the launchpad! One note: When I searched the translator's name on the new project template, it came up with first and last names reversed (i.e. Warren Kate M.) so I selected what was available in hopes it could be corrected later, hope that's ok!

Hi there, I'm having a similar problem to some of the previous posters. I'm trying to use the template generator to create a new project for a book called, The Events of 1848, Especially in Their Relation to Great Britain by Richard Monckton Milnes. I can see he's in the database as there are a couple of previous projects citing him. I've tried a couple of browsers but the errors are the same as reported earlier, a 500 error with Chrome and a blank page with Safari.
He has a fluid name, he sometimes goes by Richard Monckton Milnes, 1st Baron Houghton but I can't see all that going as a surname.
Any help would be gratefully received. I've had mixed success before, this is my fourth project, a couple of times it's been fine so I don't think it's a script blocker.

Hi again, sorry, I realised the template code was pasted in an earlier post and I've copied and edited this. No need for further assistance and you'd be perfectly within your rights to lower your glasses to the mid-point of your nose and peer at me over them and I'll deserve it.

Actually, it's good that you posted your experience. The author issue should be fixed as of a couple weeks ago, so we don't expect those errors anymore. We'll need to dig down into this.

And using the template code is only a stop-gap measure, since the MC will have to enter all the information into the database in order to set up the project.

I don't have the time right now, but later this afternoon I plan on using the information you put for your project and adding it to the template form, to see if I can force the same error. If another MC sees this and wants to investigate, feel free. The new project is here: viewtopic.php?t=99809

OK, so I entered all the information from your project into the template, and it gave me the template code with no errors.

When you selected the author, did you type in "milnes" as the surname, then select his name from the list? That's the only spot I can think of as causing any issues.
