This Giddy Globe, by Oliver Herford (1863 - 1935)

This project can be found in our catalog at https://librivox.org/this-giddy-globe-by-oliver-herford-2/
A geography of the world at the time, told with a wit and humor unusual in non-fiction and historical texts while staying true to the subject matter. (Summary by SK Veld)
Source text (please read only from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/26053

Target completion date: 2022-12-31

Prooflistening level: Standard
Prospective PLs, please see the Guide for Proof-listeners.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I will set this up for you. Looks interesting. Have you done a solo before? :D
EDIT: I took the liberty of adding a tilde to the title to advertise for a DPL. Or do you have someone lined up?

I'm finishing up my first solo right now, so I've got almost one done. Still pretty new. I don't have a DPL lined up at all, so whatever we can do to advertise will be great.

Thanks so much for agreeing to join in and MC and help set this up. I appreciate it!

Hi Phil,

I've got the MW filled in. The "prologue" in this book is strange in that it's in the middle of part 1 (intentionally), so I think the row for the prologue can get deleted and I'll just include it as part of part 1. Just part of the quirks of this book that made me enjoy it so much.

Can you delete the extra row? I moved it to the bottom.

Easy Peasy. Done. This is looking like an interesting project. As a side note, it is not necessary to put page counts in the magic window for solos. Nothing wroing with it of course, it is just not required. Now that I think of it, it isn't required for any project; we just do it sometimes to give readers an indication of how long a section is so they can know going in. We are a considerate community!

Oh, good to know. It's actually helpful for me as a reader even for a solo. It helps me know how long I'll need to block for recording.

Awesome, Christine, thanks!

I'm hoping to start getting it recorded and edited in the next week. It's not terribly long. Should go quickly.

I suggest that you record and edit the first section and uploading it for PL before moving on to the last two. Just to be sure everyone is on the same page that's all.

This is HILARIOUS!! Section 1 notes:
13:25 should be "Even the 'knee-plus-ultra" of Newport"; I heard "Even the 'knee plus extra' of Newport"
16:57 please remove error "Imagining " just before "Imagine attempting"
17:23 remove extra word "If"; should be "She refused to answer"; I heard "If she refuses to answer"
The volume of the recording is just slightly out of spec with Librivox requirement of 86-92, I believe. If you take it down by 1 then it should be ok. You can download the checker and check your own specs just before uploading. Here is the link: https://cgjennings.ca/projects/checker/
Thanks!
Christine
