Privy Seal: His Last Venture, by Ford Madox Ford (1873 - 1939)

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/privy-seal-his-last-venture-by-ford-madox-ford/

This is the second book in Ford's Fifth Queen trilogy, a series of historical novels presenting a fictionalized version of the life of Katharine Howard, the fifth wife of Henry VIII. In this installment, the king is becoming increasingly drawn to Katharine. He is married to Anne of Cleves, however, and Katharine's unwillingness to be the cause of a divorce stands in the way of her accepting queenship. Meanwhile, Lord Privy Seal Thomas Cromwell and his men conspire to use Katharine as a pawn for their own political ends. (Summary by Scarbo)

For the time being, I'll need a little more time than usual to PL sections that come in on weekdays. Thanks for your patience.

I would like to claim Section 7 please. Have you heard of the Broadway Musical Six? The soundtrack is really good!

I'm glad to see this project taking off! Thank you for claiming. Yes, I discovered Six recently and Katharine Howard's song is a total jam!

Hi!

Here is section 15. You may find the latin more pig latin than it should be - let me know what I need to fix. It passed the checker anyway ....

Sort of timely for a British history lesson, eh? - Thanks, Suzanne

Thank you for section 15! It sounds great, and I appreciate your clear and measured reading style. I'm not worried about the Latin - Ford sure does like to drop untranslated Latin phrases in his work as if the typical reader knows it as fluently as he does! I have just a few notes:

- At 1:57, "it might consume the friar Forest," I hear "it might consume the prior Forest"
- At 2:36, "foul traitor!" you say "fool traitor!"
- At 26:24, "idle and gaping," I hear "idle and gamping"
- At 26:56, "not yet smell beastly of liquors," you say "not ye smell beastly of liquors"
- At 30:10, "And consider that we must bring," you say "And consider that we might bring"
For the time being, I'll need a little more time than usual to PL sections that come in on weekdays. Thanks for your patience.

Whew, I'm glad to hear about the latin!

I've made the corrections. Here's the updated recording: https://librivox.org/uploads/lynnet/privyseal_15_ford_128kb.mp3 I might have accidentally added a second or two at the end so it's looking like 30:45 now.

Thanks,
Suzanne

Has section 11 been inadvertently moved? It is easy to drag sections out of place, but easy to move them back.
