Thank you. The text link is not found, even with adding what I think would be the full url. Please be sure to copy the link fully.7A2c3Ml wrote: ↑August 12th, 2022, 12:23 pm https://librivox.org/uploads/lynnet/ssc103_thebraingoeshome_mrl_128kb.mp3

I also need information about the author.
I am recovering from surgery and hope to get caught up by next week. Edit: back with limited use of my arm. Still a long way to go!

The text file is what you read from. The Gutenberg-Aus file. It’s just the link doesn’t work. I expected http:// and maybe www at the beginning. I just can’t open it any way, and get “not found” and “suspicious site” if I try I need the information for the metadata. I also need the author and story title (I imagine that’s The Brain Goes Home or something along those lines).

The information I have is precisely what comes up at the top of the page when I go to my story. As you see, I've ADDED the "https", which wasn't even there. Why don't YOU google "Damon Runyon short stories", go the the Gutenberg Australian site, and see if you come up with anything different/I'm missing something
Also, where in all this should I include the author info?

I could, but a) it's not my responsibility, b) there was no mention of Damon Runyon in the original post (although I see it there now) and c) Gutenberg Australia comes up as an unsafe site.7A2c3Ml wrote: ↑August 13th, 2022, 12:33 pm The information I have is precisely what comes up at the top of the page when I go to my story. Edit: you should copy the whole url from the uploader. If you uploaded correctly, I should be able to work with it, but if, for example, you uploaded to the wrong folder, it might take a while to track down.
I will look into it further.

I still cannot access gutenberg australia
If I do a Google search, as you suggested (again, not my responsibility), I get a list of collections. Which collection is it in?
Edit: I have found an online version, but it is dated 1931, so is not PD in the US and can't be used. If you have an earlier version (pre-1927), I might be able to work with it.

I'm terribly sorry. I was not pretending this was your responsibility. I simply didn't what else to DO, since what was up in the URL bar was what was there. I will, of course, copy over the bar, as you suggest. But if that does not work, must I simply abandon the project?

Of course, we can abandon your submission... and if it is, indeed, a 1931 story, that's what we'll have to do.7A2c3Ml wrote: ↑August 14th, 2022, 8:26 am I'm terribly sorry. I know that in Australia, you cannot always access the sources we use, but I was unaware that the reverse was also the case.
I'm sorry that your work has, apparently, been wasted.
Edit: I have been able to access the story on PGA
Sadly, it does not give me a pre-1927 date,so it still cannot be used

I have tried looking to other "old" (19th century) short stories, and I can't find a one on an "https" site. So I'm in total confusion. First of all, what are the indications of a "story in the public domain"? I get that you require an "htpps", but is that in itself proof? If not what IS proof that a story is in the public domain? Second, is there some place to go, some index that will TELL me, "everything here is in the public domain"?

The https doesn’t signify public domain. I just couldn’t open the link at first.7A2c3Ml wrote: ↑August 14th, 2022, 10:42 am I have tried looking to other "old" (19th century) short stories, and I can't find a one on an "https" site. All pre-1927 stories are PD in the US (although some disputes have arisen e.g. Agatha Christie, mainly due to family challenges). As our servers are in the US, we need to comply with that.
In addition, readers in other countries need to comply with their own local laws, which usually depend on the authors date of death. For specific info for Australia, I suggest talking to Anne (annise), but I believe it is 50+ years… it may be 70+, the same as Europe. Everywhere is different, so it is very difficult to keep track. I recommend finding out what your rules are (again, Anne is in Australia and knows these things )
Sometimes we come across stories where the copyright hasn’t been renewed, so we can use them… this is especially true of sci-fi stories. Also government publications.
Here in the US, PG is very good at saying whether something is PD here. They have a legal department and check things out… we can’t do that. I’m not sure how PGA differs. That might be a question for Anne.
Sorry I can’t be more help.

You’re pushing the limit on length here, but I think it will be ok. If not, I may need to manipulate it a bit to make the usually stated limit of 74 minutes.

Colonel Starbottle for the Plaintiff
The volume is too low. Please amplify by about 30 dB https://sites.google.com/site/librivideo/for-volunteers/recording#6
There is a lot of background noise https://sites.google.com/site/librivideo/for-volunteers/recording#11
Please leave 5 seconds silence at the end of the file (this could be why the file is failing technical tests)
Please have .5 -1 second silence at the beginning
As it is, I'm afraid I cannot PL it. Please fix these technical issues and re-upload with the same file name.

Another problem, one that someone gave me the answer on only last week, but I didn't write it down. When I imported my file BACK onto Audacity, it was all compressed. What do I hit to make it go back the way it was? I know it was Control plus something!
