Here's one recorded on a Zoom H2:
http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/ehl/writteninmarch_wordsworth_add2.mp3
Machine: Zoom H2 Handy Recorder with the Mic Gain switch set at LO, and no other effects.
http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/products/h2/
Mike: Front 90° stereo setting (two of four built-in mikes)
Recording environment: living room with all computers switched off (no fans)
Step 1: Normalization of file done in the H2 before exporting as WAV file
Step 2: USB export to 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac
Step 3: Import to GarageBand 4.1.1 for editing
Step 4: GarageBand effects settings: soft easy compressor; voice appropriate parabolic EQing
Step 5: Standard GarageBand normalized export to a 128 kbps stereo MP3 file
Step 6: Tags set in iTunes
Limitations: Records at a very low level, even when set at its highest. Mouth to mike distance needs to be close. Windscreen not adequate to prevent 'plosives. The necessary internal H2 normalization takes a very long time, several minutes to 1/2 hour or more for long files. On a 1 GB SC memory card you can record for 17.5 hours using the 16bit/44.1kHz WAV format.
Hope I did things right this time.

Here's mine.
http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/ehl/writteninmarch_wordsworth_py.mp3
I sound strangely muffled. This might be improvable with better sound editing, surgery or hormone treatment.
Recorded on a very cheap Aigo A208 mp3 player with built in microphone (picking up through two pin holes). The device was held about 3cm to the side of my mouth. It creates a wav file, I assume up to its full capacity of 512Mb.
http://en.aigo.com/Product/view.asp?id=1701
1 Edited in Audacity
2 Standard hiss removal in CoolEdit
3 5 db noise reduction in CoolEdit
4 Conversion to mp3 file in CoolEdit

Here's one from me, recorded on a Sandisk Sansa Clip.
http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Default.aspx?CatID=1363
File: http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/ehl/writteninmarch_woodsworth_jl.mp3
Run Time: 1:02
Step 1. Transferred mono .wav file from player to Cool Edit 2000
Step 2. Edited File
Step 3. Converted Sample rate to 44.1khz (unit records at 16khz natively)
Step 4. 3db bass reduction, centered at 100hz
Step 5. Converted to MP3
The frequency response is limited, and there are a few small click-type noises in the recording
that I don't know the cause of, but for a sub-$40 player, I think it sounds pretty good.

Here is my recording. It was done on an Archos Gmini 402, using a Samson C01 microphone through an ART V3 pre-amp.

Wow that's great for a first recording. I half expected the bit and sample rates to be incorrect but they were fine! Not bad recording quality from an ipod.July wrote:Hi, here's mine:

I hope I'm posting this right...
Here's the link to my sound file.
http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/ehl/writteninmarch_woodsworth_ad.mp3
1. I recorded it on a Sony ICD-SX46
2. Using the reorder's software, converted it to a wav file.
3. Loaded it into Audacity 1.3 beta.
4. Did some minor editing.
5. Converted it to an MP3 using RazorLame.
6. Added the tag info with MP3Tag version 2.37a.
7. Uploaded...
Note: I didn't normalize it or get rid of any noise as you wanted to see what the thing sounded like. It seemed to me doctoring it up would have defeated the purpose...
That's it, Al

Recorded on an iRiver iHP-140 (also known as "H140") using the internal mic and the Rockbox firmware.
1) Imported into Audacity.
2) Deleted cough.
3) Added a few seconds of silence to the end.
4) Added ID3 tags.
5) Exported with LAME plug-in.
No noise removal, normalizing, bass boost or reduction, or any other post-processing was done to the file.
