Hello, I am Eunah Choi.
I think it's time to revise a few LV Wiki entries related to getting the LV files, specifially this page:

https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=How_To_Get_LibriVox_Audio_Files

The page says "We provide each chapter in three(3) different audio file formats: 128kbps MP3, 64KBPS MP3, and OGG Vorbis." However, when I enter the Internet Archive page of LV recordings, I find that the Internet Archive doesn't give us LV recordings in OGG Vorbis. Please check this Internet Archive page as an example:
https://archive.org/details/contrasts_2206.poem_librivox
And when rewriting the above wiki entry, I think that the following Help page should also be revised:

https://librivox.org/pages/help/

Specifically, please remove the part referring to the LV recordings being given in OGG Vorbis format. According to the Wikipedia entry for MP3, the patent for the MP3 file format has expired, and I guess that's why Internet Archive doesn't provide LV recordings in OGG format anymore. Please check out the following Wikipedia article about the MP3 format:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP3

And one more thing. I entered the Workflow Help page, just out of curiosity, and the page contained several links related to the Magic Window and the LV Uploader. I am talking about the following page:

https://librivox.org/pages/workflow-help/

All the other pages work fine, but when I click the page titled "Answers to some FAQs", the link takes me to the following LV Forum page:
viewtopic.php?f=15&t=48102

And the message on the forum says "The topic does not exist". What happened? Did the topic get removed by a siteadmin, or has something else gone wrong? I am a little bit confused.
I ask the LV forum moderators or siteadmins to correct the LV Help page and the LV Wiki page I mentioned above, and give me an explanation
about what happened to the forum topic related to the Workflow tool.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Eunah,

Editing the wiki is not something that happens as a regular thing, but I will take a look at your suggestions.

First of all, at the time that first wiki page was written, ogg files were derived. Since that format has been largely replaced by newer formats, at some point, the Internet Archive stopped deriving to ogg files. Newer projects will have 128kbps mp3, 64kbps mp3 and VBR mp3 files. Older projects will still have the ogg format files (see for example, this one). I've edited the wiki page to reflect that change. (Note this change has nothing to do with any patents on mp3 files.)

As for the last link on the "Answers to some FAQs", I've removed that broken link from the page - It may have been referring to the FAQs at the top of the main forum page, but as you point out the link did not work so I can't be sure. Any forum topics related to the workflow tool were announcements and early Q&A for BCs. These are no doubt still somewhere on the forum, but will have drifted down to the bottom of whatever forums they were in due to inactivity. All the information necessary is in the google documents linked on that catalog page.

Hope this sets your mind at rest about these topics.
Jo

Hello,
Thank you for your prompt reply. And I apologize for my ignorance about the audio file derivation process on the Internet Archive. I thought that all the LV recordings are only distributed as MP3 files, even older LV recordings. Sorry again.

I’ve noticed the Wikipedia page for LibriVox promises Ogg Vorbis files.
( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/LibriVox in the Production Process section.)
Is there an admin here tasked with keeping Wikipedia up to date?

I've removed the reference. Thanks for mentioning it.
