I started this assignment interested to learn about the discovery of my home country by Cartier (whose name is prominent in Eastern Canada).

I finished this assignment feeling bad about Cartier abducting several Indigenous people (referred to as "Indians" and "Savages" in the text) to take back to France to show them off to King Francis I (spoiler: they "pined away and died"). This after he built a giant crucifix to tell the locals, essentially, 'yeah, I'm claiming all your land as France's now'. Not surprising that on his third voyage the Indigenous were no longer friendly or helpful.
