Hello, I'm a librarian in "real" life, but have recently gotten sucked into proofreading for Project Gutenberg (http://pgdp.net) and also passing books around via Bookcrossing (http://bookcrossing.com)

When my life is not consummed by books (and words in general), I can be found avoiding "real" life by spinning, knitting, gardening, playing computer games, watching movies, and spending time with my husband.

I knit, too. Though only things that are straight. I wish my feet were cubes!

Hehe. I wish I knew how to knit socks. My grandmother knitted me some years ago that outlived her by some considerable number of years, but now she and they are no more. I can knit (or at least I could when I was 11) but I can't purl or cast on, and the rows get tighter and tighter until you're fighting to get the needle through the yarn. The idea of knitting in circles seems complicated to me.

Marks & Spencer have some rather lovely merino wool socks that feel wonderful but aren't very warm. And we're just about to move into an even colder house :( :(

Ermmm, I seem to have got a bit distracted.

Oh yay the knitcast people fixed their feed so I can subscribe :) (saw you mention them on your blog the other day, Hugh, but their feed was broken for me then)

yeah... reading that knitting book aloud would be tedious in the extreme!

7th: X knit 2, slip 2, knit 1, X join at the end.

8th: X purl 1, slip 2, knit 2, X join as before.

9th: Like 7th.

10th: Like 8th.

11th: Purled.

Lol! And listening would be worse. Oh well :)

I'm a knitter too. Learned on-line. Mostly here (http://www.knittinghelp.com/), but have Hugh's link bookmarked too. Also have proofed for DP and am a bookcrosser. No cats.

ooooo.... look at all the knitter-types....

I've actually listened to knitting books on cassette, and it was actually pretty cool to have the instructions read out loud to me... as long as the text doesn't relie too much on pictures it works really well. Maybe I'll do The Ladies' Work-Book next... with a link to the original pics.

Yikes! Me too. MLS-holding former librarian who knits, spins, crochets, embroiders, etc. and I love computer games and I love cats and...yikes! I wonder how our DNA compares we're all so alike.

I have knit socks too, although not recently.

Do you all know about the book Knitting with Dog Hair?
