The progress of text-to-speech

Everything except LibriVox (yes, this is where knitting gets discussed. Now includes non-LV Volunteers Wanted projects)

I'm totally impressed by how TTS is doing nowadays. I don't know if I could do that (if not, I'm so sorry, please tell me and delete them), but I uploaded 3 versions of LibriVox's intro. Each of those are read by a SpongeBob Squarepants' character.
Look at how impressive those are:

I don't think this could be used on LibriVox, but it is a matter of curiosity!

It is, indeed, interesting. Technology never fails to surprise me.

However, I understand Librivox does not accept computer generated voices, with no exceptions.

Yes, I know. I don't like tts audiobooks as much as human-read ones.

Those examples were absolutely awful!! If that's progress, pull the other one!

I think this is a work-in-progress. It's the first time I see the computer "immitate" characters and real people. THIS is the innovation.

I was unaware that the 1 minute test required helium and wacky juice.

That would be the "1-minute test" that we ask everyone to do before they record something for our catalogue: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=1-Minute_Test It is not an audition, but more like a sound check. The samples of text-to-speech found in the first post are done using the text we recommend people to use for this test.
