Here's mine. Sleepy, first thing in the morning (even before coffee) read that I was trying to keep quiet so as not to wake my husband.

Burthen is just an alternate spelling of burden. It should still be pronounced as "burden", I believe, regardless of the spelling.

The copy I found in my bookshelf, which was published by Collins in London in 1958, has "looks" and "burthen."

I think it's safe to do either "books" or "looks" and either "burthen" or "burden." Until Hugh makes it part of our mission to do original scholarly research, I'm happy with that conclusion.

by the way seems shakespeare's rhymes have scared away the poetry readers!

Does Shakespeare do Hotmail or Yahoo? Ha. Well, my little book of Shakesperean sonnets is kind of a cheapo, on the book rack right by the cash register, grab it because you feel like you should have it, type of book, so it likely isn't the expert source! Oh well, at least my recording adds a bit of diversity to the mix!

As for the meaning... Well, I think the guy is so crazy in love that he's tongue-tied and hopes she can read the look in his eyes. At least that's what it seems like to me.

I've caught the dread lergy too, so this is a tad more nasal than is normal. Still ... I didn't mess up the editing this time, unlike with the fourth version of my Austen-chapter (I am growing to loathe that book
