I am both reading and listening to Charles Reade's The Cloister and the Hearth. May I take a moment to thank the reader, Tom Denholm. His delivery of this book is perfect, absolutely perfect. Reade's language is dense and layered with meaning and emotion, and Mr. Denholm's wonderfully masculine, cultured voice achieves the right pitch and the right pace to bring out every single ounce of meaning and heart. Perhaps he is famous here and you all know this about his work, but I did not. I will certainly search for him for other books. The human voice is the most perfect instrument. It can soothe, alarm, excite, and seduce. It teaches what it means to be human and to suffer. I cannot imagine Mr. Denholm's talent appears only here on Librivox and I searched for him but without success, so in posting here I hope to recognize Mr. Denholm and also to learn more about his work.
