The Golem: A legend of old Prague, by Rudolf Lother (1865 - 1943)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-golem-a-legend-of-old-prague-by-rudolf-lothar/
Rabbi Loeb creates a man of clay, the golem, to house a perfect soul that he believes will not be blighted by human prejudices. But the rabbi’s plan does not turn out as he had hoped... This is one of many stories about the golem, all of which involve Rabbi Loeb (Judah Loew ben Bezalel), a 16th-century Talmudic scholar and mystic known as The Maharal.

Rodolf Lother (Rudolf Lothar Spitzer) was an Austrian writer. This story was published in the B'nai Brith journal The Menorah in 1896 and subsequently included in the author's German language book Der Golem: Phantasien und Historien (1904).

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Thanks so much! It’s only a short piece—probably only an hour or so.

The English version I’ll be reading is rather flowery… The German original is less so but since I can’t provide my own translation I’ll go with this one. :D

FYI, Wikipedia has his surname as Lothar rather than Lother. I don't know if this will change your pronunciation or not. (It also gives a pronunciation, if you want it.) :)

Odd, eh? But as the story is published as "Lother" I should probably use that. I will be sure to pronounce his name wie man es in Deutschland sagt -- "Lo-tar."

Very nice!

I wonder if, as there are multiple announced "sections" within each part, you might want to introduce the very beginning of each of the two files with "Part 1", etc, rather than "Section", just for clarity?

Happy to defer to your opinion, of course.

Part 1 has just one PL note: at 0:10, a false start of "This is a librivox recording..."

Looking forward to the rest!

Part 2 is PL OK!

Just being a bit of a pedant, here, but... introducing the file with "Part 2" and then the disclaimer, followed by "section 3", might be a little less confusing. "Part 2, Section 3" at the very beginning might suggest the listener was missing a couple of files, if they weren't following closely.

I could be wrong, though. An excellent reading, as always, thanks for having me along!
