I'm a grad student in library science, doing a project on podcasting and decided to start my own. I'd done a paper on the Gutenberg Project and thought it would be fun to do an audiobook from there. So I started doing "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen and after a lot of trial and error and frustration, got it up and running. I burned my feed about five days ago and I already have fifty subscribers which is great and scary.

Anyway, I was doing more research for my podcasting project and found this website and realized I'm completely duplicating what you are already doing! I see P&P is already in the works here. It's too bad I'm not doing something original that I could contribute here but I'm going to keep going with my P&P podcast. Have you ever considered making a book available twice? I certainly don't want to be seen as competition. If you don't want duplicates, I'll wait till I've finished my own P&P and then get started on something for here.

Duplicates are fine. Everyone's interpretation of a book is different. The more the merrier. I'm sure your P&P is a valuable addition to the audiobook universe.

One of the good things about LibriVox is the "power of the many". Because we're working with many people, we've accumulated a catalog quickly. We've teamed up with archive.org and are working to do the same with gutenberg. Those activities get us press and let more people find our books and listen in (and volunteer).

So jump in any time you're ready. We'll look forward to hearing your voice.

just throwing in my opinion: if all goes well, in 5 years we'll have 2 versions of each book in the public domain.. the nice thing will be we won't have to worry about the second P&P... in ten years maybe we'll have 10 versions of each!

I just have to add a little plug here for Bill Stackpole's reading of Stave 5 of A Christmas Carol. Bill came to the book as an understudy (if Verbminx doesn't show up by tomorrow, he's on stage), and his reading is amazing. His enthusiasm is just overwhelming. Bravo, Bill!
