Ok, try this one. Thank you!msfry wrote: ↑July 13th, 2021, 4:30 pmThanks Arthur. Volume checks out at 82dB. We shoot for 89dB. Please amplify by +7, and in future recordings on this setup, you can safely increase your mike's volume, or maybe if you use Audacity, bring your volume slider up, or bring the mike closer to your mouth, or a bit of all three. I recommend you download the Checker program, so you can check your tech specs for yourself. It's right handy.ArthurTrinchera wrote: ↑July 13th, 2021, 3:04 pm https://librivox.org/uploads/aradlaw/wilderness_sandburg_at_128kb.mp3
Coming in @ 3:03
Let me know if specs are ok on this. I did it a little differently.
Warmly,
Arthur

Thanks, Michael, for a gently potent rendition, which for only God knows why, inspired me to honor your mockingbird.

Not at all. For some reason I just noticed him more this time than all those fanged beasts in me.

Ok, well, maybe because it's likely my favorite beast on the list. We get to hear mockingbirds almost every day here in DC suburbs, and I still can't quite believe that such a creature even exists. One of my favorite things about living here.

Not quite wilderness here, but wild enough

I resisted the temptation to get overly dramatic with this one.

My yard is filled with mockingbirds -- and cardinals, blue jays, morning doves, sparrows, hawks, woodpeckers, finches, chickadees and more. I put a double bird feeder outside my office window so I could watch them all day, but the darn squirrels eat all the seeds. So now I call the setup "Squirrel de Soleil". They are funny, trying to go up the greased pole, failing, trying again and again until they wear off the Crisco. But today I am going to foil them. I saw a video how to affix a slinky toy to the pole so they can't climb up. Alas, they have also learned to bypass the pole by jumping to the top arms of it from my roof. I will have to move the pole further out from the house. They bring out the tiger in me.

I wish you luck in getting the better of squirrelly mischief. I don't believe they do that because they want the food; it seems to be a kind of sporting challenge that they enjoy.
A pair of blue jays have taken up residence nearby a few months ago. Their protracted exchanges can be a real bane, especially when you're trying to make a recording. My wife was just commenting this morning that she sees evidence of intelligent design with a touch of irony in the fact that these beautiful birds should be endowed with such a singularly obnoxious voice.
