Myths and Legends Around the World - Collection 10, by Various

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/myths-and-legends-around-the-world-10/

This collection is dedicated to recordings of short mythical or legendary works which are in the Public Domain. The stories tell of legends, heroes, myths, and ancient lore from many different cultures. (Summary by Lynette Caulkins)
Please choose and record any short myth or legend that is a short story in the public domain. It may be from a stand-alone book or a single chapter from a book. For clarification of what it means for a work to be "in the public domain," see this section of the LibriVox Wiki: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Copyright_and_Public_Domain. Try to stay with works that run less than 60 minutes. You may read up to 2 selections per volume in this collection. You may use 2 sections for one myth/legend if the story is too long for one section. Multiple versions of the same story are welcome, so don't worry whether someone else has recorded your topic already; we're happy to hear the version you found, too. :) Please note that in this collection we do not do reservations on sections, as is typically done with LibriVox group projects. If you wonder about the suitability or public domain status of a story you want to record, feel free to ask questions in the discussion before you do the work of a recording. If this collection fills before you are able to do that recording - No Worries! - the next collection will be open for you very soon. :)

After 12 sections are submitted and approved, we will catalog the collection and make it available to the public.

Here is a list of sources that still have chapters available: Potential Sources for Myths and Legends Around the World *Please note that you are absolutely welcome to use other public domain sources. (In fact, bonus points for finding a new source, particularly if it contains cultures not yet represented on the list!)

New to recording? Please see our Newbie Guide to Recording for further instructions. A quick guide to our required technical settings can be found here. When you post your file, please tell the BC what name you would like to use in our catalog.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

OK, I fixed the file name in the directions. Looks like we're good to go over to Readers Wanted Short Stories :)

Hello! :)

I'm considering reading the Filipino (Philippines) version of how the world was made. I thought it would be fun to read something from my home country. :)

https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/10771 pages 183-232.

Before I start working on it, I just want to make sure it's okay to read it. Also, should I use the original way the names of the characters are pronounced in the Philippines, or should I pronounce it the way non-Filipinos would?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Best regards,

Joan M.

Hi, Joan! Welcome to LibriVox!

This will be terrific for the collection, and the Philippine pronunciation of names would be fantastic.

For your personal reference, anything that Project Gutenberg has published as an ebook is in the Public Domain, so you can use it for LibriVox. :)
(and I've added this book to our list of possible resources - great find!)

Hi, Chinmay! Welcome to LibriVox :)

Thank you for this recording! I've got it loaded into the MW and it's queued for Proof Listening.

The MW won't let me assign you to the section, though, until we have a Reader Catalog Page for you. I'll need to know what name you want us to use when we make that. This is the name that shows on the public catalog of audiobooks when people look at them.

Some readers use their real name, others use their forum name (the one you post under), and others make up a different pen name.

Just let me know how you want your name there, and we'll get your page generated. :)

Here you go, Chinmay :)

This is your personal Reader Page: ChinmayHota.

You'll see that it lists all the projects you are a part of, both complete and in-progress. It also has a link to the lists of all the sections that are assigned to you for recording and/or prooflistening. Very handy!

Hey - I've had a very tiring day at work, so I will PL your story file first thing in the morning :)

Yes, you certainly can! And then when Collection 11 is open, you would be able to send two more if you wish.
