Hi Kara! Welcome to Librivox! Thanks so much for your reading! We just have a couple of technical issues to fix and then you will be good to go!

The volume falls outside of the target range we have which is (86–92 dB). We aim for 89 dB and you are at 83.7 dB which is just a bit too low. You also have some noise in your recording, especially at the beginning which is being reported. When we record for Librivox we leave .5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning at 5 seconds at the end. It is really important that it be SILENT and that fan noise and the like not be nearby. If you expand you recording (us the + symbol in the looking glass) you will see that the first 2.5 seconds are not a straight light but bumpy - that is showing noise. We are going to get rid of that. So highlight that 2.5 seconds and then go to Effect - Noise Reduction. Select the top button which is Get Noise Profile - it is going to "look" at the noise you highlighted - it takes a nanosecond. Now, with that section still highlighted, go back to Effect - Noise Reduction and with the settings of 12, 6.0, 6 and Reduce select OK. You should now have a straight line. That is how to clean a noise place that is supposed to be silent. The end of your recording is just fine!

Now, we are going to increase your volume - so now highlight the WHOLE recording (Ctrl A or use the Select button on the middle left side) and go to Effect - Amplify - as your recording is at 83.7 and you need to get to 89 that is a difference of 5.3 dB. So enter 5.3 in the top field please and press OK.

Lastly, we need to set two items when you Export your file. The great thing is when you set these they will be remembered when you do your next recordings (along with the mono above) so you will not have to repeat this! All of them are in the lower half of the window below where you enter the file name. Set the Quality to 128 kbps (from the drop down) and then select the Constant bit rate. Now Save the file :)

Please upload this new file as you did before and paste it to this thread so I can check out your progress. If you have any issues please let me know!

Hi Lynda,

Thanks for your help. Your instructions were very clear and easy to follow. I think I have made all the changes you requested properly. Please let me know if there are still issues.
