Hi Ozzymin!

Welcome to Librivox! Your spoken voice sounds wonderful! We just have some technical settings that need to be corrected and then you will be ready to go!

The volume falls outside of the target range (86–92 dB). We aim for 89 dB in the middle. Your volume is 73.3 dB so it really needs to be increased :) To do this is really easy - highlight the recording (Ctrl-A) or click on the Select button which is in the window above Project Rate and then go to Effect - Amplify. In your case you need to enter 15.7 in the Amplification field. I get that by subtracting 73.3 from 89.

The recording should be in mono sound, not stereo sound.  Next, go to Edit - Preferences and select Devices and on the right Channels and set that to Mono.

Now we are going to Export your recording and do 3 things on the Export window. The great thing about Audacity is that when you set these things they will be remember these settings. First, the bit rate quality should be set to 128 kbps. The recording should use a constant bit rate mode. Lastly, please check the Force export to mono just in case you record in stereo again - it will always save as mono.

Then please upload the file again and post it to this thread for me to review. If you want to check your settings prior to uploading (however after exporting) you can use this tool called the Checker - it is what I use (and other people at LV) to check our work - especially the volume to make sure it is in range. https://cgjennings.ca/checker.html You install it and then go to File - browse for your recorded file and then it will tell you the status of that file for you.

Regards -

Lynda

Hi there Ozzymin!

You are SO CLOSE now! Your voice and volume are great!

Just 2 little things to fix which are when you export the file - Bring up your Test3 recording and Select Export - Export MP3. On the bottom half of the export form there is a drop down list with Quality beside it - the bit rate you should select is 128 kbps. Now, above that select the dot that says Constant. Now save the recording, upload it and post the link for me to check! Once those 2 settings are locked in all your future recordings will be set the same way.
