The Arrow of Gold: A Story Between Two Notes, by Joseph Conrad (1857 - 1924)

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-arrow-of-gold-a-story-between-two-notes-by-joseph-conrad/
In the 1870s, supporters of the pretender to the throne of Spain take advantage of a young man's attraction to the sea to persuade him to run dangerous missions on their behalf, with the financial support of a beautiful but exceedingly baffling young heiress, with whom the young man is soon giddily in love. Told largely in the first person, the novel is unusual, for Conrad, in focusing largely on the evolving psychology of a young man in the throes of a great romantic passion. (Summary by Peter Dann)

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I will set this up for you.

Edit: All set.
Do you have a DPL lined up?
I would recommend shortening the file name.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thank you!
I've done only one solo before, so I'm still pretty new to this.
I don't have a DPL lined up.
Re shortening the filename, is this something I can do myself simply by editing the first post? (If so, I can do that). Presumably "arrowofgold_##_conrad_128kb.mp3" should be suitable?
I will probably want to change the Description of the novel down the track, but I will post explicitly when I do that (as I gather there's a separate copy of the Description held somewhere else in a database, and you will be needing to change that if there's an alteration later).
I did see a list of MCs' 'real names' somewhere today, but can't find it now. Can I call you Lynne? I'm Peter.

Hi Peter!
As you don’t have a DPL yet, you should add a tilde (~) to the title to advertise the fact you are looking. I could do it, but I think it’s better to learn for oneself 8-)
As for shortening the file name, you can use anything you want, although shorter is better. I think it’s a good idea to edit the first post (note there are 2 places), although in a solo it’s not as important. But when you start uploading files, you should be consistent.
You’re right about the summary needing to be changed on the project page, so I’d appreciate being told of any changes. I usually check before cataloguing, but sometimes I forget
Have fun with it.

Thanks Lynne. I have added the tilde to indicate I'm looking for a DPL, and have shortened the filename pattern.

Lynne, now that Susanne has kindly stepped forward as DPL, I have removed the tilde from the start of this project's posting.
Is that the right thing to have done?

Lynne, after uploading the first two files, I realised I had misnamed them (I initially numbered their sections 01 and 02, rather than 00 and 01). I have since reloaded the files with their correct names and have edited both the MW and my postings accordingly, but right now in your file repository you will have a file named "arrowofgold_02_conrad_128kb.mp3". This is actually the same file as (the now correctly named) "arrowofgold_01_conrad_128kb.mp3". I'm guessing you don't need to do anything about this as it will eventually be overwritten by the correct file for section 02 when I record that - but I thought I'd better let you know in case you see it there and wonder what's going on. Just a newbie in a muddle....

Susanne added as DPL. Yes, it is correct that you removed the tilde. Moving to Going Solo... that doesn’t really affect you in any way, but it keeps the Launch Pad tidy.

That’s not a problem. I typically don’t clean out the folder until cataloguing and I can’t see if it was an incorrectly numbered file or an edited one. Unless I’m told otherwise, I just keep the most recently uploaded.
