I am planning to read a few chapters from "BIRDS IN THE CALENDAR". I hope this is fine.

Cheers,
Pradeep Ahdi
Hi Pradeep, Chapters from Birds in the Calendar would be fine to read for the Short Nonfiction Collection! http://www.gutenberg.org/files/27465/27465-h/27465-h.htm. It's a nice idea to give listeners an idea of what birds to listen to or look for each month of the year.
Hi Sue,
I have finished recording my section. Here are the details. Kindly confirm it.

Hi Pradeep,
Thanks for this interesting and informative selection about the bird sounds made by the nightingale and nightjar! :D It makes me wish I knew more about the bird sounds we hear locally in the Midwest USA!

Hi Betty, Thanks for this vivid description of the celebration of Saint San Gennaro's day in Naples. You always find such interesting places for your virtual visits! :D

For me, anyway, there was also an encounter with a new word "carous." "There are ancient carous hill towns, the color of old bones..."

Per the Oxford Companion to Ships and the Sea, a carous is "a sort of gallery or bridge, pivoted in the centre and fitted in ancient warships, such as galleys, as a means of boarding an enemy. On forcing a way alongside an enemy it was hoisted up by a tackle and swung round until it projected over, or into, the enemy vessel, forming a means of access for boarders. " https://www.oxfordreference.com/view/10.1093/oi/authority.20110803095551137] I'm not quite sure what Shackleton was evoking, maybe the idea of the steep narrow cobblestone stairs and overhanging balconies in the old town? Did you get any sense of his meaning?

Thanks Betty :D

Well read description of an old ceremony that had to be stopped in 2020 due to covid.

One error noted:

13:09 Through this crystal could be seen two vials, one about four times as large as the other, and each about one-third full of a dry and sticky-looking mass. Forgot to say words in bold -

Craig

The Feast of San Gennaro is celebrated in the US since 1926.

I recorded Chapter 4 of "The History Of The Telephone." It came in at 74 minutes 21 seconds. Do I edit it to get the time down to 60 minutes, or do you do that?

Hi randyj, 74:21 will be ok. We generally consider 74 minutes to be the max, but the 21 seconds over isn't enough to be worried about. Looking forward to your recording. :)

Hi there,
Finally have uploaded my submission for Genealogy of Etiquette. You can find it here:
https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/snf080_geneaologyofetiquette_mencken_br_128k.mp3
I realize that I have misspelled "genealogy" in the file name. If that causes a problem I can re-upload with the correct spelling... . Please let me know if all is OK,

Regards,
Brett

Hi Brett, Thanks for the contribution! :D Don't worry about the file name. We'll fix the spelling on this end.
