No changes are needed what-so-ever. Chapter 3 - PL OK. I'll mark it as such in the Magic Window. Thanks.

Hello! I'd like to claim Section 16, please. I've read "Nine Fights," and it's really cute. Also, this will be my first recording through LibriVox, so I'd like to appear as "Meredith M" in the catalogue. Thank you!

Hi MCCOY2M2 and a big welcome to LibriVox! :D I have assigned that section to you but before you record it, please make and upload a 1 minute test to be sure your recording set up is OK. Instructions can be found in our Wiki and in the first post of this project but Here is a video that may help too: How to Make your 1 minute test.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlaRY_-bcfs and then How to Upload your 1 minute test How to Upload your 1 minute test

(You may post the link to your test in this forum and I will see it much more quickly)

I also recommend Getting To Know our Forums Getting To Know Our Forums

We just want to check out your technical specs. Don't forget to post the link either in this thread or in Listeners WAnted forum.

hello Phil please find my first recording for chapter 18 below
i fully understand why Solomon Owl is so arrogant at the others in the forest, it's because they all don't respect him and Solomon is acting out on them

Arthur Scott Bailey may have been trying to include teachable moments in this book. I can imagine the pushback from the kiddos - "Daddy, tomorrow night can we have a bedtime story without an Important Life Lesson?"

I have a real world meeting coming up, I'll prooflisten this chapter after that.

Here we go - three fixes are needed.

At about 1:52, I hear "...of all the mice I cap." The book has "...of all the mice I capture." I believe you've edited the ending of that word off - this should be fixed with the entire word capture.

At about 2:32 you read "It's all right," said Solomon. This is the caption for the illustration in the book, quoting from about 6 paragraphs before. This sentence should be edited out.

At the very end you read "End of chapter" - that should be "End of chapter 18." Also, be sure the silence after that is 5 seconds (or more, up to 10, but most readers go for 5.)

Chapter 18 is marked See PL notes for now.

And yes, Solomon is sometimes mean to others in the forest, but others are giving him trouble as well.

Jane,

Pass, with a couple hints for future recordings.
-- There is a lot of low frequency noise in your recording. The program 'checker' notes this in an automated complaint. You can reduce low frequency noise in Audacity with a filter effect. Audacity has several selections of filters so you can use the type you're most comfortable with. I tried running a High-Pass Filter set to 150 Hz and 12 dB per octave on your chapter and it helped with the noise. (It's safe to filter out sounds below 150 as there is almost nothing in the human voice below this frequency.)
-- I heard a thump - for example - right after you read "The Sleet Storm" and just before the beginning of the story. You made an edit there, and that made a sudden voltage change I could hear in my headphones. The low frequency noise I mention above makes this more likely and louder. You can prevent this in Audacity with the 'Z' key: each time after you make a selection (a section to copy, a section to delete, or a location to paste) press 'z'. This moves your selection slightly to the nearest spot where the waveform crosses zero volts. When you attach two parts of the recording right where the 'before' and 'after' sounds are just crossing zero gives no sudden jump and no thump.
-- For consistency we would prefer "End of chapter nineteen" instead of "End of 'The Sleet Storm'"

Hello, so I read all your comments. Should I re-record the whole thing, or just adjust in Audacity?
