HannaPonomarenko wrote: January 8th, 2021, 1:16 pmIt seems, we have a missing bottom line at p.49.
ANNOUNCEMENT:

I now checked the rest of these stories, and some other pages are wrongly scanned as well, missing the bottom lines :(

So I changed the original link in the first post now to: https://archive.org/details/rover02labrgoog/page/n69/mode/2up where the bottom lines are all scanned correctly.

However in that source, pages 62 and 63 are missing entirely.
Luckily in the previous link, those two pages are scanned correctly, so for those two stories (Chess Play and Zoe), please refer back to the other link: https://archive.org/details/rover01labrgoog/page/n88/mode/2up

Sorry for the complications. :| But it should work like that now.

I made a note for those two sections in the MW.

I love to read, AND my employer matches my volunteer hours with a donation to the Internet Archive, flagged to benefit Librivox.org. How cool is that?

Here is section 3 for PL
Time is 33:08
ah yes, this was a nice story, I love Irish mythology tales. :9: And I so enjoyed that there was no bad ending for Jack for freeing the souls. They remained friends, what an unexpected treat. I really loved the story which you excellently narrated. Thank you so much, Kate.

PL ok right away.

Hi Sonia!
Could you please clarify the meaning of the following phrases in my section for me?
  • p.50, 1st column, at the end of the 4th paragraph from the bottom
"it would be carrying the romance the length of folly..."
  • p.50, 2nd column, in the middle of the 2th paragraph from the top
"Ah, unconscious ingrate! to no endavour to come in the way of one..."
Thank you)

hi Hanna, the text indeed is not that easily written. Here is my take of it:
"it would be carrying the romance the length of folly..."
it means: "I would insist too much on the concept of romance, it would be stupid to do this." I haven't read the story yet (want to be surprised by the reader) but I am guessing the person first wanted to have romance and maybe wait for the other person to be as romantic as well. But it would be stupid to wait too long for that to happen and in the end they may lose each other because of that, so this would be folly to wait just to get the romance they want. Does this make sense in the context ?
"Ah, unconscious ingrate! to no endavour to come in the way of one..."
it means: try to meet the person by any means...so maybe find out where that person is going in the evening and then by coincidence also show up there, just so that they can meet each other again and talk. The contrary would be "avoid meeting the person by any means".

I hope this helps.

Sonia
