Viking Tales by Jennie Hall (1875 - 1921).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/viking-tales-version-2-by-jennie-hall/

Abandoned Oct. 5, 2022
The story follows the life of the Viking Harald from infancy to his crowning as King of Norway. It focuses on the Vikings' eagerness for adventure and new lands as they set forth from Norway and sail westward across the Atlantic, island-hopping on their way to America. The legends of these men were passed down through generations of families, while they sat around the fireside on bitterly cold winter nights playing harps and working with wool. This adventurous book will entertain young and old readers alike as they take a look at the lifestyle and world view of these mysterious people. ( Simon and Schuster Publisher)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/24811
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

This is my first solo launch. Please let me know if I have to change anything.

Cadastra would like to DPL. Not sure how that works.

I used the summary of the book from the Publisher Simon and Schuster's website. Not sure if thats ok.

Thank you so much! So excited!

Reporting for duty! I recommend that you write your own summary rather than use the one from the publisher's website, as I am sure that is still under copyright. Everything we publish in our catalog, from the recordings themselves to the summary of the story to the CD cover art, has to be in the public domain. Looking forward to listening!

Ok thank you! I am a bit intimidated to write my own. I will try and post here when I do.

Welcome to your first solo! I can MC for you. I'll be back to explain things and yes, you will need your own summary.

Your MW is ready. Here is how you get in: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BxWB83bbALTQYjlENGZ0SVJUWWs/edit

Once you get a password and get logged in you are ready to set up your MW. You will enter the titles at this time and then as you record you will enter the file links, duration (in notes) and toggle the workflow.
Assigned – section assigned to a reader
Ready for PL – file uploaded by the reader and ready for prooflistening
See PL Notes – prooflistener has listened to the file and posted edits for the reader
Ready for spot PL – The reader has made the requested edits and the file is ready for the prooflistener to spot check
PL OK – file is ready to catalog

You will likely be able to obtain a summary from the "What the Sages Were" section.

Let me know when you have access to the MW and I'll move you over to going solo.

Let me know if you have any questions along the way. :D

I think these go here first right?
Wasn't sure if I put them in the MW somehow, THEN edit as needed.

Post the link to the file and the duration in the MW, and then post in the thread to let me know you've uploaded a section for PL! Thanks!

Please be careful with your filenames. The section title should have two numbers; not 'intro', or '1'. If there are no PL notes for these two sections don't worry about correcting them. I can do that for you before we go to catalog.

Yes, Cadastra, is correct. You only need to post the links and time in the MW. Then in the thread make some sort of a comment; e.g. the first two chapters are ready for PL.

Heading for Going Solo. Have fun!

So should I make the intro (What the Sagas Were) 00 or just start counting it as 01? and go on from there? I can change it thanks for offering.

Thank you!

Yes, the intro file name should be 00 because that is the section number! Don’t worry about fixing the file names, if I have any PL notes you can do it when you address those to eliminate the need to re-upload the files multiple times. If there aren’t any PL notes, we can fix the file names at cataloging! Just use a “0” before the section number from here on out to keep things organized. No worries, it’s a learning curve!

CynCee,
Another learning curve item for you.

Please put the file length/duration in time MM:SS in the notes column. The time is helpful in a couple of ways. First, it lets your DPL know how much time to set aside to PL for you. Second, your MC uses it as a double check during the catalog process to ensure the correct files are being cataloged.

The status column is a dropdown and one of the options is 'Ready for PL', another is 'Ready for spot check'. You use those options and Cadastra will use 'PL OK', or 'See PL notes'.

Thank you Linny! I will correct it!
I did that when I posted here but TOTALLY forgot in the MW.
I'll fix it!
Thanks for being so patient with me! :D
