Thank you
No need to worry about it unless you have edits, but please be sure to use the double digit format in file names _06_

Gerald,

First of all, I have to apologize for being so late on this. I was away from my computer Sunday and Monday.

As far as the reading itself, only two small fixes:

1:51 and without being suspected There is a loud 'click' in the middle of this line.

11:17 As if in response to this Stumble at the first of the sentence.

However, when I ran this through Checker and MP3Gain, it registered 83.2. I then tried to do the corrections as we did using Amplify in Audacity. It wouldn't let me do it, it would only go up an additional .7dB. So I asked someone above my pay grade and Lynne gave me the following suggestion. That was to use "Compressor" in Audacity. This was entirely new for me, I had no idea what it would do, but I started pushing buttons. I did on your reading, and it brought it up to 89.1 (on my first try  ). Here is what to do. 'Import' your recording into Audacity. 'Select' your entire recording. Go to the Effect tab in Audacity. Find "Compressor" (The eighth choice down on my version of Audacity). Click on that. Then here is where the 'fun' begins. On the two top 'slide' controllers they should be set at -12dB and -40dB (as those are the 'factory presets'). What you want to do is change them, by sliding them to the left to -31dB on the first one and -65 on the second one. Then click on 'OK' and exit it. Then save it again as an MP3 and upload it. I will check it then. This will change, a little, the sound of your voice, but it will still be OK. Then, after all this, I think you should go back into Compressor and click on the 'manage' button on the lower left, then click on 'Factory Presets', then on 'defaults', then on OK.

I have been thinking about your problems, and I was wondering if maybe your 'Recording Volume' slide on Audacity may be too low. I have mine set at '.76' and that seems to work well for me. I know others have other settings, but maybe you can check yours and raise it up a little if it seems too low.

Well, after this epistle, I will let you go forward with your adventure with Audacity. Good luck and hope to hear from you soon.

Here is the new version of chapter 6.
I made the edits and ran it through the compressor.
It sounds to me like it might be TOO loud.
The length is still 14:58

Gerald,

Good work. The corrections were well done and the volume, while a little on the high side at 91dB, is still with in parameters.

Chapter 6 is PLOK

One little thing worth mentioning, but not worth correcting unless you want to. In your corrections there is quite a bit of background noise. I know I keep saying "I'm sorry, I forgot to mention", but when you make corrections, as well as making sure the volume matches the lines around it, the new section should also be Noise Reductioned (to coin a word  ). Just 'select' the new section and run it though Noise Reduction. Something that helps in that is when you rerecord it, leave some 'silent' time at the end, then place it in the correct place in the script, then use that bit at the end as the part you get the "Noise Profile" from, then run the Noise reduction then clip off the extra stuff.

I know there is a lot of new stuff to learn, but that is why we are here, to learn new stuff.

Annie
Annie,

Good job, but a few things to look at:

3:11.5 Chick—as Pandu Singe Repeat

3:43 "I shall return for him when I have followed his instructions." you said to

4:28.5 "No, not alone, Repeat

10:04 Venner darted softly across the hall I heard deftly

11:50 "Hark you, Venner, I am the one to ask the meaning of this, not you!" Stumble on meaning

12:09 said Nick You said and

12:50 for there the climax came. Forgot there

16:18 It seemed to them the safest place in which to confine Nick, You said be

Here you go. Hopefully everything is fixed.

Audacity did crash halfway through working, but it seemed to me as though the recovered file had all the fixes I had put in (I repair back to front in order to maintain the timestamps given).
