Thanks aggain!
Hi Alyce,

Beautiful reading! You are a natural. I have a few technical PL notes, but first, have you heard of Checker? You can check the technical specifications of your files against LibriVox standards using the program - https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Checker. We require the technical specifications outlined in the LibriVox wiki here. Once you have adjusted the file's technical specifications to match my notes below, you need to run the file through Checker to ensure it passes.

1. The sample rate should be 44.1 kHz (44,100 Hz), not 48 dHz. To change the sample rate in Audacity, open the Preferences dialog box. Go to Audacity > Preferences > Quality > Change the default sample rate to 44,100 Hz > Click OK.

2. The file is too loud at 91.2 dB. We aim for 89 dB, with an acceptable range of 87-91 dB. To adjust the volume in Audacity, select the whole recording. Click Effect > Amplify. In the Amplification box, enter the number -2.2 dB, then click OK. (When you run the file through Checker, you will see the exact dB level under the "Information" tab).

3. The MC is noted in the first post underneath the link to the uploader. For this project, the MC is "mightyfelix." The file needs to be re-uploaded under the correct MC so that it can be cataloged with the rest of the files once the project is finished.

Let me know if you have any questions--I am happy to help!

Miss Alyce
Hi, Alyce:

Here are my PL notes for Section 6:

1. Each file should have 0.5-1 second of silence before the reader begins speaking and 5 seconds of silence at the end of the file (to ensure none of the reading is cut off). Currently, there are 1.1 seconds of silence at the beginning of the file and 3.3 seconds of silence at the end of the file. N.B. There is an easy way to see how long a selection of silence is. If you open your file in Audacity and look at the Audacity window, there is a dropdown menu at the lower right corner of the screen (down below the waveform). Choose "Length and End of Selection" and you will be able to highlight the silence and see how long it is. I took a screenshot of my screen so you can see what I am talking about (look for the black arrow): https://ibb.co/pXgXsDJ. (This is an example photo I use often--it's not your recording in the photo.)

2. The file is too loud at 92.6 dB. You need to de-amplify by -3.6 dB (see my instructions for Section 3).

3. The file name is incorrect - it should be missmeredith_06_128kb.mp3 (without the extra underscore after "kb").

Quick fixes! You'll get the hang of it in no time! Let me know if you need any help!

Miss Alyce
Hi, Alyce:

Here are my PL notes for Section 7:

1. The file is slightly too loud at 91.2 dB and needs to be de-amplified.

2. The file name has a typo and should be "missmeredith_07_128kb.mp3."

That's it! Please edit and re-upload. The reading is great!

Hey there!

Before I begin recording, is everyone pronouncing "Andrea" as ON-dray-uh or On-DRAY-uh? Or just On-dray?

Thanks,
Erika
