The Black Cat Vol. 01 No. 12 September 1896 by Various ( - ).

This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalog page for this project https://librivox.org/black-cat-01-12-sep1896-by-various/
The Black Cat (1895-1922) was a monthly literary magazine, publishing original short stories, often about uncanny or fantastical topics. Many writers were largely unknown, but some famous authors also wrote original material for this magazine.
The twelfth issue offers the following 6 stories:
The Reapers, by Ly Batterman Lindsay / A Kindergarten Hold-Up, by Mabell Shippie Clarke / The Guardian of Mystery Island, by Dr. Edmond Nolcini / A Mental Mischance, by Thomas F. Anderson / The Barber of the Alpena, by J. Harwood / Which was like a Woman, by William Albert Lewis ( Sonia)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.

Claiming is restricted to one section per reader, to have the maximum of different voices in this project.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/TheBlackCatV01no12189609/The Black Cat v01no12 (1896-09)/page/n1/mode/2up
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

And with this, the 12th issue of the Black Cat, we will have finished one year's worth of magazine issues for this series. :9: I hope you'll all enjoy the current selection just as much as the previous ones. I know I will. :9:

And like before, I want to keep this as a one-story-per-reader-project so we can have the maximum of voices in each magazine.

Oh for the volunteer for Section 1, please note that there is a blurred part on page 2, but I found a screenshot from a better edition and here you can read the missing text:

Let's start !!!

absolutely :9: I loved each of your stories.

And doesn't it look cool like this, on your first reader page, to see all 12 issues one after the other with the small magazine covers in the icon ?

oh thank you, Todd, happy to have you read another story. Is the Alpena a ship, by any chance ? Seeing your thematic history in the Black Cat, I suspect it is

Hi Julian and welcome to our forum :) so happy to have you make your debut in the Black Cat. 8-) Actually I have had many new readers starting out in this magazine, which I always find a thrill.

I'll gladly reserve you section 1 for one month for the time being, while you sort out your one-minute test. Please post it in the Listeners Wanted forum, that's where you will get feedback. As soon as it's approved, please let me know, so I can assign you the section officially and open your personal reader page. At the point you could also tell me what reader name you want to go by (forum name or real name).

thank you, and good luck with thet test !

hey again, so I saw you already had your test approved  fast worker here, cool.

So I opened your reader page here: https://librivox.org/reader/15569 where you will have all your projects listed. If you want another reader name, just let me know and I can still change it.

And your section is now officially claimed for two months. Please read the first post carefully, all the details for correct file naming and correct intro/outro/title wording are listed there.

Any questions still: don't hesitate to ask. Have fun with your first recording !
