Listy z podróży po Ameryce by Henryk Sienkiewicz (1846 - 1916).

This project is now complete. All recordings can be found on the catalog page:
https://librivox.org/listy-z-podrozy-po-ameryce-by-henryk-sienkiewicz/

  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://pl.wikisource.org/wiki/Listy_z_podróży_po_Ameryce
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Here's a new solo, this time non-fiction one, a collection of letters written by Henryk Sienkiewicz (of "Quo Vadis" fame) for a newspaper describing in detail his travels in US.

A few words about the source(s). I put in Wikisource, but the right-hand panel has links to scans the text was taken from. According to the footnotes in the Wikisources text some small bits, three-words-long being the longest, were illegible so the people who put the text on Wikisorces used another PD-safe edition to patch it up. Those fragments are shown as grey in the Wikisources, in case you're interested to look at it. Also, this text doesn't include all the letters, so when I'm done with those I may decide to add another source text with the additional material.

Hi Piotr, nice choice!

Since there are scans at wikisource, it's fine to go with it. I'll set it up for you.

Okay, ready to go! I gave you a few more sections if you choose to read more letters.
When you write the summary, please give me a sentence or two in English as well, something like you wrote above "a collection of letters written by Henryk Sienkiewicz (of "Quo Vadis" fame) for a newspaper describing in detail his travels in US." will do just fine.
Oh, and Polish disclaimer, of course, but you know that anyway

Have fun! :D
Cheers, Ava.

Part 1 of the Introduction has been uploaded.

Also, Nina, in case you're interested https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_Horain (mentioned at the beginning). I uploaded two of the letters (appearing much further in this work) to the current Multilingual Short Works Collection.

Part 2 of the introduction has been uploaded. Also, I've got an impression that railway travels worked somewhat differently in the past. Eating tables at the stations, THREE-HOUR LONG STOPS?!

Well, when I was a kid, we definitely had longer waits when we had to change trains somewhere.
We almost always went to the restaurant at the station, which offered decent meals to decent prices. No gourmet fare, obviously, but more than sandwiches or whatever you can get these days.
Cheers, Ava.

Part 1 of chapter 1 has been uploaded. Although Wikisources lists the titles of particular chapters, the source scans use just numerals, so I decided to go with "Rozdział 1" etc.
